I'm a bit stuck on this one. See, he could get out of punishment by saying that he was forced by the Cylons to sign various papers and make various decrees, which is mostly true. Though, he has certainly colluded with them willingly in some cases, he is intelligent enough to make a cogent argument and pander to those in the fleet which think of Cylons as an equal species worth protecting.
If he won his case, he could cause even more damage and perhaps even get elected President again.
So, despite how it may look as far as PR goes for Adama and Roslyn, perhaps the safest choice is to put him out the airlock.
One other option might be to have a trial, but not a fair one. Secretly choose a judge and make sure of the verdict.
I know it's unethical, however, I wonder if the human race, being as tenuous as it is with only tens of thousands left, can afford the luxury of total integrity.

Well, I think what he deserves and what is the moral thing to do are two different things. What he deserves I can sum up in one word: AIRLOCK. But not just for Baltar, but the sake of justice and trust and any semblance of government remaining within the fleet, the have to give him a trial. They have to prove that the law will be applied to all individuals, no matter where personal sentiment lies, or there will be no pretense of democracy left. I also think that the individuals remaining deserve whatever closure they can get from hearing the story from the man who brought down a civilization because he couldn't keep his pants zipped.

I think he deserves a fair trial. Yes what he did was wrong but if they don't give him a fair trial they will lose part of their civilization that they seek to hold on to. That is very important for them. If they give in to the baser feelings and make it a kangaroo court then their integrity is damaged. It's best for them to give him a fair trial and let the pieces fall where they may. I would think there is enough evidence to convict him after all.

I think you're absolutely right. Unfortunately, his guilt in the beginning over his role in the entire thing from the beginning is his greatest downfall. Because of his anxiety over being considered a traitor to his race, he made himself a traitor.

I think he does. I do think that theya re right that it will disrupt the fleet, but they still need to give it to home so they don't lose a piece of themselves.

I theorized the other night that Baltar really was a Cylon, and that all this hype has been meant to throw us off. I think if he was a cylon, it would be the perfect out for him, but then I don't think they want him to have a good out.
I don't know. I'm anxious and excited. I can't wait to see these next couple of episodes.

I don't think he's really a cylon either. Too easy!

Baltar has always been a mystery to me. He is definitely responsible for the extreme loss of life on Caprica and then on New Caprica. But he seems like such a irresponsible child who hasn't learned enough about right and wrong and wasn't born or built with a very strong moral compass. Ethically he should get a trial, but morally its something altogether different. I can't touch this one. His real motivations are way to mysterious for me. Does he actually mean to do harm or is he simply daft?
