DS is 14 months. He wants our remotes, so we gave him an old one for his own - no batteries!. When he was 9 months or so, he really enjoyed a toy broom (still has it!), ride on toys, balls, cups and bowls to put things into, blocks, stuffed animals to hug, board books, rattles & things that make noise when you shake them.

At this age, they usually are interested in something that they can stack or colorful things. Why don't you buy some cheap colorful plastic containers and cups and let her play with it. She can stack them together. Or some miniaure pots and pans that makes noise. They love this kind of stuff. We bought toys that are quite expensive for my baby when she was around that age but goodness..she never was interested on it...instead she loves to touch those are off limits to her. Start her with some Baby Einstein DVD's too. She would love watching them and will give you a little peace.

At that age, my son loved those little fischer price balls, they are called roll arounds, they have different toys for them to go into, like a dragon. Now that he's 18 months, he loves anything with wheels and boxes. Today he was "driving" his cars over boxes lol.
