Why should we have to pay taxes for social security?

Social Security was started for a good reason, but after they stopped managing the money in the system, we, younger generation, are having to paying in to it even though we won't get any of it. What are your thoughts on this?? Also, who do you think is to blame?

You don't have to, there is a way to opt out. If you take that route however, then you can never collect it later when you might need it.

I never knew I could opt out of it. That's what I should do, because I'm 21 and I know there is no way I am getting Social Security. And if I am, then I probably won't get much. Thanks for educating me about this option.

Bear in mind one thing, just because the politicians say that SSA is going to be in trouble, does not mean it will be gone. They keep raising the retirement age because they are counting on people dying before they can collect too much.
Instead of opting out, you should consider some type of alternate Retirement account, to use in conjunction with SSA.
Social Security was a bad idea from the start. It was nothing more than a ponzi in which the workers paid for those who never paid into the system.
When I was a lot younger, I thought that all the money I was paying into the system was going into my account. You would not believe how mad I got when I found out it didn't work that way.
Opting out is not to be taken lightly. I know i can be done, I'm not sure about the particulars.
I was tempted to when I was younger. I am glad I didn't.
I worked for 30 years and then became disabled, so now I am really glad I kept paying it.
Yep, it's true. I went from being ten foot tall and bullet proof to where I am today.
All I am saying is you have to make your own decisions. Just try not to make any that will come back and bite you many years down the road.

Thanks, you have convinced me to not opt out. I will see what happens in my future to come. For now, I will just work my butt off until I can't anymore. I enjoy hearing you replys. Keep them going. +
