I very rarely use a Travel Agency. I prefer to do it myself. You don't pay commission charges that way, and because I have travelled a lot, and speak several languages, I don't find it a problpme to book Hotel
etc on my own. There is much more choice that way too. You can stay where you want, and not just where the Agency want you to.

I always plan my own travel. Half the fun of the trip is the research and planning. Travel agents don't get their commissions from the client though. They get them from the hotel, rental cars, ect. They are usually the same price as online sites once you add in all the online fees and taxes, and online you don't get the personal attention.

I have to admit that I have not money for travelling since 1995. I can afford only 1-2-3 days "holidays" which I organise for myself. SInce we have internet it is very simple.

I prefer to organize my holidays by myself. Its much more interesting plus I dont have so much money to give to travel agencies. I can make my holiday great without that. It all depends on the people that are with you on that holiday!
