I'm worried that one day the Big One will happen and cause a major communication blackout for internet servers in 'Silicon Valley ', California.
Yahoo.com and Google.com have headquarters in Mountain View, California. Mountain View is part of the so-called Silicon Valley.
The worry is caused by an earthquake in Taiwan which disrupted
Internet services in Asia and caused communications problems
to the US.
Please read more about this earthquake in the link.

We can just pray. Before I went to stay in Mountain View in 2004, I read up about the city and the Bay Area and came upon the City of Palo Alto website. While living there I prepare emergency supplies as advised by the Fire Department. Most people there don't seemed to be bothered by this earthquake threat.

It make take some communications out but amatuer radio operaters such as myself will still be able to get out we generally here where I live we help out national weather by letting them no the conditions here so that they no what is heading which direction and what is past a certain point we also can talk to the soldiers in Iraq so they use amatuer radio operaters quite abit for communications you just don't hear alot about it because we are in for the hobby and interest not being glorified, even during the bad storms when phones get took out we try to get words to loved ones that there loved ones are ok or injured which ever the case may be.I hope this eases your mind abit.
