Yesterday my colleague at work played his music in computer. It was a rap song. I was shocked! The song is full of hatred, swearing, bad words, and the lyrics are very very rude. The rapper kept on bad mouthing his mom with the worst words I have ever heard. I am no artist and I dont know anything about art. But I personally think that art should be beautiful, and I dont think swearing and bad words are..So I would like to ask for your opinion. Song is an art, do you think that the swearing, bad words,--which are part of the song-- are also "part of art"? What's your say? Please share :)

I disagree. Swearing is not apart of art. I find those words, we all know what they are, to be very offensive and rude. I think that if a song has swearing in it that it is not a very good song at all. I have a different experience with swear words. I used to catch the bus to and from high school and I have heard every swear word under the sun come from all ages of high school students. I have heard the 'f' word put into an ordinary sentence that did not need that word and I think that is terrible. And alot of the time it is kids who are as young as 14 who are saying these words. I look at those people and to me in my eyes, I find that it degardes them as a person. But if I were to link it to chiqiitita's discussion, it is songs like that that influence young kids to swear. They hear the words and assume that because the artist used the word in a song, that it must be an alright word to use. To me, words like the 'f' word and the 'c' word are not nice words and should not be used at all. To kids, those words are not bad words and they use them frequently, in every sentence. If I had a dollar for every time I heard a kid under 16 use a bad word, I would be a millionare by the end of the week.

Oh, thats very interesting! lol. But that would be too good to be true :p but seriously, I do not think that swearing is a part of art either. And I believe in your statement that swear words are only degrading the speaker. I think it's just showing others how unintelligent they are. But the funny thing is, the world will buy those songs!

To be honest I don't like rap at all. I don't consider it to be music in the strict sense of the word and certainly the lyrics are usually crass and profane. I couldn't really consider this to eb an art as such, but I know others will disagree

Yes, I agree with you. I actually do not like swearing, bad words in every format whatsoever. But that's what make art subjective.

I really don't like rap music. My son likes to hear Hip-hop music and I find it very annoying. Bad words or swearing shouldn't be allowed in songs. I do believe songs are an art and we should be more considerate and respectful with the songs we play.

I dont mind the music, honestly. It's the lyrics that annoy me. The funny thing is those kind of songs often nominated or even win the award! lol

Frankly i do hear songs which contain bad words but if i am not mistaken all this kind of song (which contain bad words) have been label "parental advisory-explicit content" so that means it is up to the listener to choose, whether the edited version (swearing free) or the one contain swearing. In term of the artist, of cause it bad to swear around and plus talking bad about your own mom- the one who bring you into this word. It just the way they want to send the massage more clearly or should i say emotionally attached is via swearing in the lyrics. Even actually in real life people swearing in their daily life. The main point here is that, we have to judge by ourselves which one is good to take as example or just ignore the swearing and listen what actually the artist want to deliver in the song.
