How can you believe in free will when you believe in destiny?

For the romantic ones among us, they believe that someday they're to meet their destined ones. Some among us believes that they already met them. Does this means this very same people doesn't believe in free will? For you who believes in meeting your destiny, are you willing to accept that your life is already written and there's absolutely nothing you can do about it?

This is an interesting topic. I believe that there is a plan for my life. I am still given the free will to make my own decisions. The result of those actions may or may not change God's plan for me. Actually I don't think that God changes His ultimate plan but changes things that will be put in my path and decisions I need to make to give me the chance to follow His plan for me. Ultimately it is my choice.

I'm sorry, I don't get it. If it means that everything is predestined, nothing we ever do will change our future. We may strive to become better, but in the end all our efforts will be to no avail? Take Judas for example. Does it mean that he was born only to betray Jesus? Do you really think the Good Lord will allow people to be born only to go to hell when they die?

Read what I said - I said that God has a plan and he allows us to decide if we want to follow that plan. As far as Judas, I think since God's plan was redemption, if Judas hadn't done it one of the others would have. It was part of the plan. Yes I do think that God would allow people to go to hell. He makes himself known to all people in one form or another so they still get to make the choice.

What you're saying is that we have the free will to go to Hell or not. To choose between God's choice, which is right and our choice, which is wrong. What choice is that?

You have a valid point here.It is a bit complicated-destiny and free will go hand in hand. How we exercise our free will shapes our destiny.Even though our destiny is pre-written,we can only live it up to the hilt if we make the right choices in our life.If we do not make the right choices,we might lead a life away from our pre-written destiny. Now the question is,how do we know if we are making the right choices? For that, the conclusion I've reached is to follow the advice of great philosphers and thinkers and tread the path that God has laid out for us.Leave the rest to him. Also accepting life as it comes, can also have its own benifits, though it can prevent you from getting what you want from life at times.So........regarding this, your guess is as good as mine!

Lol! I guess this discussion is really confusing. I gather that you can't seem to make up your mind, just like me. The reason i raised this question is because I need more valid points for me to decide which ever is which.=D

personally, i think every one of us has its own destiny. yet, God gave us free will. we are all accountable for our own lives. God has a pre-written destiny for us but it is US to decide whether to follow the story of our lives or write our own ending.

I don't believe in destiny. I believe in hard work and preparation for the future. I don't think there is some specific divine plan for me, but that I have been given the tools to make my own choices in life, and my choices will make my future. I think I have the power to have a good future from my own hard work.
