Vista is always in need of memory. It's recomended minimum memory requirement is 1GB!!!! It's huge by any standards. I feel that most of the memory is consumed by the graphics rather than the OS itself.

Ya, graphics are the reason for a hug memory demand but i think the programs running in background are also using a big part of it if you have WindowsVista you can check it with Taskmanager calculate the total processes and memory taken by them and you will find its not only graphics but other features running in background that are taking infect eating memory

It is true that the Vista needs a lot of memory. However, Microsoft have made it clear that they are targetting new pc buyers and in fact want existing pc owners to buy a new pc for getting the best experience out of the Windows Vista Os. Yes, graphics are the main reason for this huge jump in memory requirements.

I feel that vista is over rated. The interface is not that great to me. Infact it is more like a little corny in my oppinion. The icons are nice though. I also believe that the complexity of the graphics is what uses the most memory.
