How do you work with someone you don't like?

It is true you cannot please everyone; in the same way, not everyone can please you. Or, to make it more appropriate for this topic, you will not find everyone pleasant. That is life. However, in a work environment, you have to work with people, whether or not they rub you the wrong way. That is, we need to function, whatever the nature of the chemistry is among people. How do you cope? It would be interesting and educational to learn from each other's experiences and insights.

I used to work with this woman I could not stand. She was one of them "know it alls" One day, she spoke to me in a manner I found degrading. I quickly pointed out to her her position in the company was no higher then me,and will not tolerate it, and demand she either talk to me with respect or don't bother talking to me at all. I think I knocked her socks off. However, since that day, she did avoid me. If I had a question for her, I simply asked. If it had to do with work and I neede to talk to her, I would. Other then that I simply ignored her.

Well, that sure cleared the air (or should I say, blackened?) between the two of you. Of course, it is ok to raise your issue, that is in fact fair to them, rather than sabotaging them behind their backs. I commend you for this "diplomatic" achievement! You could be negotiator, I guess. Sometimes, you just have to "knock their socks off". :) cheers!

Working with people that you do not like is challenging. You should focus on the achievement of the goal more than the dislike in the workforce, for me however I got short tolerance for this kind. Specially if the person I dislike is my superior. LOL... Congratulate me if I would stay long in a situation like that.

Hi, Perry2007. There are indeed different degrees, or shall I say, contexts to situations like this. I also can work with someone I don't like personally. As I said, we need to deliver, and it requires team effort. But then, again, if it is too much for the spirit to bear (especially if the person is your boss), then I am also one to call it quits. I am not one to make a scene, so I remove myself from the scene.
