When the government approved testing each child born for Hypothyroid they caught 80% of all childhood mental retardation. They had no idea that the Thyroid was so important to the development of the brain. The Thyroid doesn't just regulate the bodies metabolism, it is essential in brain development. (Hypothyroid means it is an UNDER active Thyroid).
My daughter was diagnosed at Yale-New Haven Hospital at less than a week old. I was devastated then I realized how easily treated it is. My daughter will never be able to live without her medication but she is easily treated. Every time we do a blood draw she sits and takes it and asks to help. She is such a trooper. Kids are amazing. She actually loves going to the doctor and loves to watch when they take her blood, she always wants to help them.
Anyone else's child have this diagnosis? Its very common. (1 in 4000).
