Do you think it's wrong or healthy to have your baby in a play pen?

Some peope swear by them and some however feel it is a little jail and a way to not deal with your baby. I feel it is necessary but can not be abused. You need to spend quality time with your baby but have be able to do things around your house and have her safe. Do you disagree or agree with the play pen? And how much time is too much time?

I agree and disagree with play pens. I think play pens teach your children to amuse themselves, because let's face it you aren't always going to be around to entertain them. I do not agree in using it as a babysitter. Play pens are good when you really need to get something done and that way you know where they are you can keep an eye on them and get what you need to done, and they are happy. I think you should spend quality time with you rchild and if they dont move around a lot you need to change their environment and surrounding so they dont get bored. That being said, playpens have good and bad to them. As long as you dont over do it I dont really see a huge problem with them.

Could you imagine if they never learned to amuse themselves? When the time came to leave them in a daycare or a real babysitter, than that child would suffer. That was a good point, and I agree with you. My oldest daughter got useto having my family always be there to play with her and they spoiled her. Now she 5 years old and does not like to play alone.

It is much safer to the baby to stay in play pen. While doing things around the house. But 30 minutes in play pen is enough. You should play with the baby then go back to your work and baby to play pen.

I have not used a playpen for my children. I can see using one if you need to do something and don't want the child to get into things. To keep them in there just to do it and no other reason is just wrong. The child needs to move around and explore his or her world with the parent. I had a big problem with my first child and her daycare because of this problem. The woman kept her in the baby jail practically all day. Once my daughter did not want to be in there and she tipped it over. I had to take her out of that woman's place.
