yes i do spank my children when they do certain things that needs that much punishment. Yes, we need to control our temper not only when it comes to our children but in general. I think it's ok to spank our children, but not in temper, I mean we might hit them too hard. It was mentioned to us in one parenting seminar that it's ok to spank our kids but never in the peak of anger, and they should understand why they are being punished and never spank with your hands, coz our hands are used to nurture and care for them. We can use a belt or slippers or a stick and you hit them once or twice, depending on the severity of the 'crime' and only in the hands or butt. Never in the head or body. Well that's my take on that.

I always fit the punishment to the infraction. If my child is doing something he knows is dangerous, something he has been told many times over not to do. Then he will get a swat. I rarely have to resort to swatting him though. You never hit in anger. And always explain why the child is getting the punishment they are. Something that impressed on me when i was young was seeing someone in tears because i had done something to deserve a spanking. I had hit a cousin and broke her nose. And my aunt was very upset about the prospect of spanking, however i knew that hitting was wrong. I knew that i deserved a spaking. And seeing how upset my aunt was, not that i had hurt her daughter, but that i had acted like i did, really hit me. That really stayed with me...

There are moments when I feel frustrated, angry, upset, annoyed, and at my limit and yes I think about spanking. However, I instead remove myself from the situation until I am calmer and better able to think rationally. I am ethically opposed to spanking for several rasons, too many to list here.
