How do you like your nails?

I used to bite my nails when I was younger but I've stopped that habit in my late teens - thank goodness! Then there was a period of time in my life when I just let it grow till it starts breaking and then I will trim it shorter. I do paint my nails off and on but not often though. Now, as a piano teacher I keep it short so that I don't hear the clicking sounds on the keyboard when I play and also for professional reasons, and not the least, to set my students a good example! Do you bother about how your nails look, and do you go for pedicure and nail spas?

I'm glad you stopped biting you nails, you can cause so many problems doing that so well done.
I like pretty nails ans used to havethem long and painted really prettily with nail are.
Now I keep my nails fairly short as I do massage, not very often now, but I did do my training, also it's easier with the kids.

I'm sorry honey, I'm just too far away or I would.
You can massage yourself to some extent but unfortunaltely not as effectively. The clue is to remember that massage means rub, always rub upwards to help your circulation. A simple massage book or a quick seach on the net will explain effleurage, kneading, tapportment etc all easy and relaxing movements, even massaging your hands or feet yourself while watching TV can help all of your body as it gentley touches reflexology points

I wish I could have you massage me too. Actually I am also interested in learning massage but the pity is we can't do it on ourselves, or can we?

That's good you know. I think nails also reveal alot about a person. Sometimes I wonder how some people can go about with nails that are not trimmed properly and with dirt beneath and yet they are dressed so well otherwise. I feel we need to take care of every area of our body no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Yes, short nails also tend to keep cleaner because it gathers less dirt than when it is long. Gone are the days when I see my nails with literally black rims!!

Oh yes when I was young I used to bite my nails as well. I have lovely nails, but have not painted them for quite some time now. I have never heard of nail spas, but I have been for pedicures but that is for my feet. I must paint my nails this week as they are looking lovely and that will top them off.

After I posted this question I was having second thoughts - that surely there will be no responses to this one! So, I am really glad you bothered to do it. I am not good at painting my nails because I don't know how to do it so that it is smooth, you know what I mean? And sometimes, before it is completely dry, I knock it against something and then there will be a mark on it. Grrr! Still, maybe when I am in the mood to try again I will.

I've never had anything done to my finger nails NOR toes. I used to during high school put on fake nails from the store and then my other nails would grow quicker under them.
The problem is my REAL nails are always so easy to break and chip.
What a relief! Most recently learning guitar and piano I now need them short. So I keep them short WITHOUT worrying about keeping them long.
I dont like finger nail polish either but toe nails FOR SURE need it. Always pink.
In high school I LOVED dark colors for my finger nails black or dark blue :)) it was fun!

Like I said earlier, whether nails are long or short, polished or not, and whatever colour you use, as long as it is nice to look at, clean and healthy, that is the important thing apart from yourself liking it of course.

I love my nails. in fact i think that's the best part of me. hee hee. i try to keep them neat. sometimes i keep them painted. sometimes i just keep them natural.
i go for nail spas sometimes. not often cos they are pricey. i can paint my own nails at home, but somehow the products used are not as good.

I'm glad you love your nails and are looking after them well. When I see people with dirty and chipped nails, I have the impression of a careless attitude and poor hygiene habits. I shouldn't think it takes too much time to just keep the nails trimmed and clean even if they don't use nail polish.

I used to bite my nails too when I was younger. Now I have longer nails and have for many years. I like them longer and I usually put nail polish on them. However..I find the last few years that they break and chip quite often..so that is bad...Just this morning I actually cut one off while cutting open a milk bag....geez....

It's always good to have overcome a 'bad' habit. Do you know the cause of the chipping and breaking? Is it something to do with diet or because you use certain powders or detergents which actually causes nails to become brittle? Would be a good idea to wear gloves if so. Hope you have good nail day!!

It's been a long time since I've gone for a manicure partly because I feel that since my nails are short, it does not need it as much. Secondly, it is quite costly to get a manicure done here, so I will only do it if there is a special occasion that calls for it, but that is rare.

I think they have a kind of nail polish for people who want to break the habit. Or maybe you can try smearing chili on it so every time you put your finger in your mouth you will taste the spiciness and stop yourself biting your nails.

I live on a ranch and I am constantly wearing gloves to save my nails. They are not long, but I just like my hands and nails to look good. If I don't wear gloves I can ruin a good manicure in a matter of hours.
I must admit that I do visit the spa at least once a month for the "works".

Must be interesting to live on a ranch. Maybe you can tell me more about it when and if you want to. We don't see many ranches in Singapore if any. Glad you are able to care for your nails despite the rough jobs you probably have to do around the ranch.

My nails wont grow long, they usually break before they get long. BUt I play piano, guitar and violin, so I actually have to keeo them rather short. I also play rugby, and its best if my nails are short.
I also used to paint them ALL the time. They actually turned yellow, and all the nail polish made them even more brittle. PLus, once nail polish starts to chip, it looks horrid. So I happily leave them bare now and think it looks much nicer when they are clean, well trimmed. Sometimes I buff them.
I like getting a manicure, but mostly for the hand massage! I only get them for special occasions

Me too. I hate it when the paint starts wearing off and I don't get down to cleaning it off and then repainting it.
Except when I am in the mood, otherwise I will just leave it as it is clean and short. By the way, you play rugby? Wow.

LOL, I have never bitten my nails and my mom and sisters have always been jealous because they do. I do have to keep mine trimmed because of typing though - found that when they get to a certain length my fingers are hitting one key but my nails hit the key above - makes for some interesting reading at time. I've always done my nails myself but would love to have the "special treatment" sometime.

Lol, I know what you mean, except that in my case it affects my playing the piano since I have to curve my fingers, so if it is long it not only makes the irritating sound but I can't play as well.

just like you, i had years of nail biting addiction. haha! well, that's what i call it. and it was in my third or second year in college when i stopped that habit by covering my fingernails with band aids for the whole one week. and yep. i went to school with my nails covered with band aids and people do stare at me. but well, it's worth it. after that, no more nail biting!
i do lots of chores at home. i cook, wash the dishes, do the laundry, clean the house, feed the pets, etc. oh, i am not complaining. i love doing things at home to help my parents and my brothers. since i can't get on doing chores in a day, i see to it that my nails are trimmed always and clean. trimmed- meaning, cut very shortly. there are times like i got my fingertips bleeding because i cut too short.
i don't go to manicure and pedicure spas. but i do pain my toenails and keep my fingernails color free.

haha! yep. for as long as it's clean, doesn't matter the length of it. it sometimes shows the personality of a person.

Overcoming a habit is a good thing especially if you want to. I'm glad you succeeded. For whatever reasons we like our nails long or short, I feel that the most important thing is they are clean and presentable. Cheers to good looking nails!

well i use to do that also, and until now i cant help biting my nails, for me' i didnt find it bad because it is just a simple habit we usually do that if we feel something like excited, nervous, afraid, scared and etc right? for me as long as your nail is clean and neat theirs nothing to worried about.

I keep my nails trimmed very short, and try to keep them nicely filed and smooth. I too, play piano, as well as guitar and violin. Nails can make violin playing almost impossible, and I have snagged them on guitar strings. So I keep them nice and short.
I don't paint them often, only for special occasions, and even that is rare. I think it might look nice newly painted, but I hate when it starts to chip. I also don't like the smell of polish or acetone, so I tend to avoid it. I think they look very nice natural, nicely filed and sometimes buffed.

Hi cassidy, I agree with you - as long as our nails are neatly trimmed, doesn't get in the way of our job and looks presentable and clean. Sometimes, we don't realise it but our nails also represent a facet of our character too.

Nails show how healthy and hygienic are you. I do go for pedicure and manicure to parlour. If no time, then do it at home. Nail polishing sometimes.

Hi hopeful
I bite my nail too when i'm a kid but then i realized that is not good for my teeth and my nail. I got my first nail polish when i was a teenager, i did it because i think that if my nail got polish than i will not bite them again, and it work.
Now i really concern about my nail, i like to have manicure by myself and put a beautiful nail polish for my nail.

Hi angel, I'm glad you managed to stop your nail-biting habit. I think that taking care of our nails, whether on the fingers or toes does help in promoting a healthy image of ourselves. It would be a definite minus to see someone who wears nice clothes and have nicely done hair but with ugly bitten nails!
