How do you know *for sure* that God has chosen you to be a messenger?

How do you know, for sure, that God has chosen someone to be a messenger of His Word. I dont mean a pastor or a minister in that sense, but people who call themselves prophets. Are there even prophets today? Why or why not? If people believe they hear from God and that they are do say or do something He has commanded, are they really hearing from the Lord (if it lines up with scripture) or is it the devil?

I find this a particularly touchy subject. I believe that you must use your best judgement to determine the validity of what the person is exactly saying. So you are right, if they are in alignment with the Bible (the truth) then its possible its coming from god or that it is inspired by god somehow, however if it goes against the Bible, then that person can either be crazy or possessed somehow. I dont know just my two cents.
