why not thankfull. If you get something from somebody you are thankful to them why not thankful to god.

I know what you mean, alot of people only think of God when they are in need. They pray for the things they need help with, or others need help with. But it doesn't often enter their minds to pray for thanks. I always pray for to thank God when I am happy or good things happen. Sadly some people don't pray at all.

thats true , when people are in happiness they become selfish. they start thinking that its all good because i have made those efforts. But when something turns bad they start cursing god.

Indeed that sad, but true, i for one did that-when i was happy it was like i didn't need God, I did take him for granted a thousand times. Then crisis came, i lost all hope, nothing i do ever seems to work, so my last resort was to return to God and pray, he was my only hope at that time, and thankfully, he never forsake me even if i was taking him for granted before. now i know better, i try to thank him everytime whenever im depressed, happy i thank him for all the things that he's giving me. So maybe the reason why some people pray to God in hours of depression is because God remains their last and only hope.

basically what you are saying depression here is normal sadness. now depression has its scientific explanations. i have seen many cases of depression in my department and what i found is depressed persons believe less in god . rather opposite of depressive i. e. manic have more and excessive faith in god.

bhuvana,
im sure you are a very good cook. now let me know, how many people who are close to you, who eat your food compliment you on the cooking. very few of them. but majority of them never.
alternatively, when you cooking goes bad, every creature who eats will start commenting on it.
that is human nature. we complain but never compliment.
so it is with God too. when we are full of joy, we forget the divine. but when we are sad, he is given the first place.
whoever has tried to understand human species...

Perhaps it's because when people are going through a hard time they feel more vulnerable. Because of this they reach out to the aspect of God who is a healer and protector. Sometimes people can be forgetful of what they are thankful for when things are going well but I'm sure there are plenty of people who pray during the good as well as the bad times. I make a habit of giving thanks every day.

Yes, I pray to God when I am depressed. But I also pray when things are going well. I know that all good things come from God. But I think you are right that many people tend to forget God when things are going well - they might think that the good is something that they did, instead of God did for them.
