Why do people watch anime?

I can never understand why some people like anime so much. A couple of my friends are anime addicts and it baffles me. I mean, what's the attraction? The characters also move in a stiff way, if you know what I mean. I would prefer to watch Disney cartoons.

I agree with you. As a mother of two boys I have been subjected to Anime, Pokemon, Narutu (spelling?) I really don't get the attraction. I have watched many times just to "see" and can't stand to be there for more than 5 minutes. Give me Tom & Jerry or Disney any day of the week.

Haha! The spelling is Naruto. Nah, I've never watched it before but I read about it on my friend's blog. Oh, yes, I think Tom and Jerry is much better than any anime in the world.

well, It really depends upon the person watching. Me, i can say that i'm a big anime fanatic. I love watching animes because here, i see many things that can only happen in fantasy. It also makes my imaginagion works. Anime also attracts the viewer because of the way the different characters were drawn. Also their interesting story. While watching anime, you will feel like you're inside the television and you are the character in the story. that what makes watching anime for me the best. well,, im not speaking for all anime fanatics out there but im speaking based on my own experience.

Yeah, I guess it does depend on the person. I mean, everybody has different tastes right? And sometimes we may never understand why our best friend is so into something we think is dumb. Heck, maybe they might think the same way about us.

The whole anime thing bypassed me. Having never watched any anime myself I don't really know what the fuss is, but I have a lot of friends online that seem to love it. I've always said I wanted to check it out one day but never really know where to start or if I can really be bothered. I think I'd take Disney or WB any day.

I love both.Watching them since childhood days and even now.Cartoons are actually more relaxing.Anime brings you more than that. The drama, the story and just like what catcai just write,it tackles more realistic topic. And anime can even change me in many good ways. The determination that they show.My favourite is Naruto.A lot to be learned.I suggest that you watch Naruto.maybe you will like it.

Thanks for giving your side of the story. I see that anime does have an effect on its viewers and fans. Sure, I'll have to ask my friend if she has Naruto, then I'll see it for myself.

well i think its probably because of the story behind the specific anime that your friends likes. Anime is not just all cuteness and good values and being happy and jolly- it tackles more realistic topics and some of it deals with very emotional to morbid content. Besides it has all the elements, scifi, drama, comedy, action, suspense, horror even rated r stuffs that most men- or boys.. usually enjoy... not that they dont have it in disney as well, they do have almost the same elements, both types of animations can touch your heart- can make you laugh...can make you cry. Maybe an additional factor would be the image or the drawings- as you can notice some anime characters look too good to be true- handsome, pretty and sexy most of the time- i think this adds up to the likeability factor as well.

You've given a very good explanation. Yes, anime is special in its own unique way. Well, not everyone has the same taste.
