How to make your site show on google the free way?

I have been checking into googleWords. Those are paid ads, and as far as i understand they are in that blue box on the site. I have read some on it, and it turns out 70% wievers would still prefer the free ads on the page, and not click in the blue box at all.
So does anybody have a clue how to make your site visible (at least the first page) on the searchwords you choose on google? Or does it just happen?
(must add html and metatags and those things still sound like nonsense to me, i do not understand it. But i want to learn! I have to if i want a good site out there.)

Hi well,
If you want to make your site in first page means your site should be contains unique contents and more similar Links.
Similar site Links are boost your ranking and Keywords are the main key to bring your site in first page so select at least 15 good keywords and give this keywords in your meta tag or title tag, then try to get more Links it will be help you,
