Do you believe in the death penalty? Do you believe it works?
My stance on this issue is no to both questions. I don't believe in state sanctioned murder, fortunately I live in Canada and I don't have to confront this issue daily. To many people have been exonerated that have spent years on death row, and one person executed wrongly is one to many. It doesn't save the taxpayers any money, it costs more I believe to keep them on death row then it does to jail them for life.
I also don't believe it is a deterrent, and in some cases it could cause more lives to be lost. If a person commits a murder in the heat of the moment or a robbery gone wrong, why wouldn't he kill more to try and escape. You can only be sentenced to death once.
That being said, I would take my chances with a jury if I saw anyone hurting my children. I wouldn't hesitate to execute them myself.
