i cannot bring myself to trust a person who cannot look you in the eye during a conversation, no matter how casual. there's something in eye contact that expresses your interest in a conversation and more importantly, your sincerity in the things you are saying.

Yes It is Very Important and necessary. The eye contact, is infact the most essential. Without it right may be taken wrong and vise versa. It makes us understand differnt matters easily.

I get nervous when I stare into someone's eyes when I talk to them. A little bit of eye contact here and there is fine with me, but for some reason I just cannot keep staring at them while I am talking. I think I get a little shy or backward or something. I don't want people to think I am actually staring them down or something. I often look away from others when they talk to me also. It is not that I do not want to hear what they have to say, it is just that I get really nervous when someone is talking and looking at me the whole time. I guess it is just nervous energy.

Yes, that's true specially in my country, the Phils. The eyes really express more than the mouth. You can easily tell when a person is bored, turned-off/on by just looking at their eyes. Their eyes are the first things you should look at when engaging in a conversation, they're your first warning signs when things are starting to go akward. People here have a hard time talking with me eye to eye, they sometimes face you but direct their eyes on your shoulder or somewhere past you. I guess they aren't used to it as most people from other countries.
