It's impossible to pick just one. At the top of my list are Ridley Scott, Takeshi Kitano, Peter Greenaway, Jim Jarmusch, Akira Kurasawa, and Quentin Tarantino. There are lots of others I admire, but that would be a long list.

man you have picked up a heavy bunch. i also like jim jarmush a lot and my father is just mad about greenaway. but i don't know what to say about takeshi kitano. i know he is considered to be one of the great art film directors today, but some of his movies just seem a little pourly made or not even to interesting.

Definitely Martine Scorscece, but Tony Scott is asswell one of the best. Also Quentin, but yeah he makes it all cruel or sometimes over the top, still he has his classics!

You know, I honestly don't know. There was a time where I would have said George Lucas, but after seeing Star Wars episodes 1 and 2, he's no longer in the running. Probably James Cameron. I liked Aliens, and I liked Terminator, and I can't think of any other directors that I've seen multiple movies of theirs.
