Growing Pains

My little guy, who has done so well all week at going to bed well, and staying in bed, woke up at 3:00AM this morning soaked through, and rubbing his leg. He went straight back to sleep, but his rubbing his leg made me think about growing pains and how horrible they were for my daughter and they started around the same age as my son is now. My daughter was up all night for so many nights with "growing pains" - which the doctor said they could never officially diagnose her problem as. They sent us to a specialist who said that her bonew were growing faster than the muscle and ligaments and the pain was caused by those playing "cach up". They told me it could last anywhere from 2 years old to 12 years old. We were fortunate that they stopped around 8 years old. There was nothing I could do for my little girl. Rubbing it didn't help, ice packs, heating packs, rubbing cream - nothing. I dread having to go through that with my son - any suggestions? Has this happened to you or your kids? What worked for you?

i remember going through this wehn i was young. my daughter is actually starting this as well. she complained a few days ago about sore legs all day. anyway what i used to do and it helped releive the pain a little was to lie on my back and push my legs against the wall. it releived pressure in my legs. my aunt used to do it to and it worked for her. lie close to the wall so your legs aren't completely stretched out and are bent a little.

Thanks, I'll remember that if this turns out worse for my son. I remember being able to mark on the calendar that two weeks after a bad night of growing pains, I could visibly measure a growth change in my daughter. The worst was the night the tops of her feet hurt...sure enough, two weeks later, she jumped 3 shoe sizes!

I had this problem too. My MIL said my husband did as well, but for his "growing pains" She would give him calcium and magnesium in a caplet and that helped his pains. Doing leg streaches to stregthen the muscles may help as well.
