A WOMAN whose baby son was found abandoned in a street, freezing cold in an upturned pram, was so drunk she had not even realised he was missing. The one-year-old, baby boy, was found by a passer-by on New Year’s Day, crying and wet in his pram six hours after the mother had wheeled him home from a party, a court heard. the Little boy was so cold he had turned purple. When police called at the woman's home to investigate they found she was still drunk and had no idea her baby was missing. The 25-year-old from united kingdom admitted ill-treating, neglecting, abandoning or exposing the baby in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering. head of magistrates’ court was told that the child had now been taken away from his mother and put into care. Magistrates heard that the mother and her children had spent New Year’s Eve with her partner at a family party nearby. But prosecutor mike helier said the mother-of-four was asked to leave when she became boisterous after consuming a huge quantity of alcohol. She left with her children at 2.45am. At 9am a woman noticed the baby in his overturned pram on the path there street and took him to a nearby home, where she tried to warm the baby and called an ambulance. When the mother was confronted by police she claimed she had gone home with the children’s grandmother, but when the baby did not settle down took him out again in his pram. She pushed him up and down the path and then left him outside for 10 minutes when she went inside to check on her other children, but when she came back he was missing. She claimed her little boy had only been outside for an hour or so. But a neighbour, nearby also told officers she had spent all night looking for her son, despite the fact the pram was just 150m away and could be seen from the house. alan may, defending, said: “She and her partner had been drinking and she offers no excuse whatsoever. “She’s clearly shown remorse for the incident.” He said a pre-sentence report highlighted the difficulties of the mother, who has no previous convictions, had been facing. Magistrates gave her a four-month prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, and sent her on a programme to deal with her alcohol problem. Today executive member for children’s services said: “This is an horrendous case. To leave a child outside in the middle of winter is shocking. “I hope the sentence means the mother will get the intervention she needs to address her problems and make sure this never happens again.” aaaahhhh this story made me so mad, how could she even do that wether she was drunk or not!! i don't think that's acceptable and she was definetly neglecting her son, what does everyone else have to say on this? do you think she should of got a longer sentence because i sure do! if not then why? if yes it was right then why? please share and discuss with me. :( and by the way ive deleted the names of them people and changed them just because for safety and stuff! all users will be rated.

Meg this is absolutely awful and I agree she was reckless even getting drunk to that extend when she has Kids to look after. All I can say is that she must have been well gone to let this happen. I hope the Baby was ok and I hope she never gets the Baby back, she does not deserve to have her Kids. As for the Sentence yes I agree she deserved more then that.

hiya gabs im happy you agree, people like her make me sick obviously as she never had any problems she just got so drunk, i mean how could she do that knowing she has a few kids to look after and especially walking home with them at early hours of a morning! she deserves more iof a sentence than that, and i do hope to think that she won't get her baby back, because she obviously doesn't deserve him if she's neglecting him, i feel sory for him going in care tho at that age, awww wish i could keep him, hehe! well this incident will be updated gabs in a few days more than likely on what's going to happen to her when she comes out so i shall let you know if you like! oki doki bye for now! :) +

Wild story. I cant believe a parent can be so irresponsible as this. I think once you have children the time to drink is gone along with alot of other things you might have done before. People like this should'nt even be allowed to have children. That baby was so lucky to have survive. I think the mother got off pretty easy but whats done is done. She should not be left alone with any children aon her own ever again.

That is infuriating! What kind of a message are we sending to others when we allow such atrocities to occur? I think she should have lost all parental rights and should be banned from having more children. The children who remain in her care I feel sorry for. Who can they turn to? Am sure they will need someone and it sure isn't family.

She should have went to prison for at least 5 years and after spending all of that time in prison should have to deal with the possibility of that for the rest of her life without ever seeing her children again.

this is absolutely shocking. no parent should go drinking beyond a point that they cant even look after their own kids. leaving a 1 year old outside in winter?!? disgusting... she should be left out herself just to let her see how it feels... i also dont think that she should get the baby back...

I agree. I have twins myself, 2 mo old, and I don't even like to leave them in their bassinet in the other room! I think I remember, like a year ago, a judge sentencing a guy to sleep in a field for leaving a box of kittens in a field. Of course they gave him a tent, and they only had a wet box. Bogus.

This is an awful situation. Thank goodness someone found that poor child and got him help. The mother needs some serious intervention and she needs to be monitored if she is to get her child back. I think that her sentence was too lenient. If people were truly punished for things of this nature, I think there would be less incidents. As it is, she just got a slap on the wrists.

That is horrible, how can she do that? Every mother loves hers child and she always want to protect it against anytinh, but this mother is different. She wants to endanger her child's life... Thats so sad.

That is aweful, Just terrible. There is NO excuse for a parent to ever do that to their child. That is neglect and child abuse. I hope that her kids find good homes where they will be loved and taken care of, rather then treated like a toy to be forgotten! I look in on my own kids and cant imagine taking them outside right now with it as cold as it is. Much less taking them outside at night, when its much colder... Thats terrible... Unthinkable.. I have such a hard time beliving people are that aweful to their kids, and yet i see it all the time. Its truly frighting.

it is very frightening, i agree with you, i won't even take my child after 6pm at nigth unless im going the shop or something because the world can be a dangerous place nowadays! i think she should serve a longer sentence tho and i hpe she does, plus she doesn't deserve to get her baby back! well tjhere are alot of responsible parents and well done to them including myself...hehe and there are irresposible ones who don't deserve to have children! thanks alot for saying your views on this! +

She should be punished without any thoughts... She has no right to leave a small baby in the middle of the night out in the cold... How can a mother do this to her child...
