many people believe that children need to be taught value of work, thus instead of giving children allowance consider tying their allowance to their doing chores around the house
I give my kids enough money to buy food at school. When they want to buy something and the amount isn't really that much, I give it to them. When they want something a little pricey then I make them work for it doing different chores.
