ukay-ukay, a native word from the province of benguet which means used clothes or 2nd hand clothes. this kind of business was first introduce in baguio city and bangbang and continue sprouting all over the philippines. due to cheap and inexpensive 2nd hand clothes, ukay ukay business boomed most in the urban areas. buyers appreciate the fashionable and unique look of every clothes + the cheap price which only cost 10 pesos and up.

I haven't been to one, unfortunately. But I'm amazed by the finds my relatives get. Some clothes are never before used or used just once. What I don't like are used shoes because they are hard to clean, though.

It was my college friend who first brought me to an ukay-ukay (UK) center here in cebu city way back university days. At first I was kinda frowning coz it wasn't that easy to go over piles of second hand clothes and pick the right one for you. But as we frequent the UK center, I learned to love it and even encouraged my mom and my boyfriend to try it. It's indeed a practical way to get some ukay-ukay stuffs especially nowadays that the cost of living has been soaring real high... :)
