I won 2 auctions and the reason I bid on this seller who said 5.00 flat shipping fee. I get the invoice and it says 10.00 shipping and she refund me if it is less shipping. I wrote her back and said wait it 5.00 flat fee that means I can win 50 auctions and only pay 5.00. her excuse it be 5 just to ship the one item (which i know it wont be because it a very light thing, I guessing both item would be no more then 3.50 total) This was such false advertising, why say you have flat fee and then not honor it, I know you want to make money but come on, so they jack up the shipping.

So many people forget that shipping charges include the packaging for items. Bubble Wrap, padded envelopes, postages boxes, etc., they all cost money.

hey there! soo i went to ebay and did some research for you..and I found out what you wanted to know.,.and im sorry but you misunderstood..this is what it says..
Flat shipping costs
This option enables you to enter flat costs for U.S. and international shipping. If you are selling more than one item, you can enter a shipping cost for each additional item a buyer purchases. The cost you enter will display on your item listing. Your buyers will be charged the shipping cost you specify when they pay for the item. You can use the eBay shipping calculator to see sample costs for both domestic and international destinations.
this is the link..its under the Help option..if u have any more questions about ebay..have a good one!!

It depends how the auction was stated. If she said combined shipping is available than $10 isn't combined. However, some sellers weasel out of this by claiming putting two separate auctions in the same box is "combining". After that, they refuse to discount the shipping further. If it isn't clearly stated in the auction from now on you should probably send the seller an Ask A Question and make sure. You won't know until you get the package how much it cost. Is she sending Priority? If so it's $4.05 to start.

I know what you mean!
I think that is against the rules but people jack up the shipping all the time on ebay. You might try writing and complaining about the shipping problem you had because that is DEFINITELY not fair!
Good luck!

I did and ebay wrote me and confirmed what i was saying about flat rate it is one price and not per auction. So in this case shipping should been only 5.00 not 10.00 like she is trying to get, they called it what she was doing a surcharge, that trying to add fees after the auctions this is against ebay rules.
the seller just emailed me after ebay emailed her, she admitted she didnt realize what flat rate really was, she thought like most on here were trying to say discount shipping, and it isnt.

this is a common thing especially on EBAY! people charge high postage costs and low price for the item. They do this to avoid the selling fee's plus as you have probably gathered, if you return an item they dont refund your shipping costs so theyre covering their own backs and ripping people off! there isnt much ebay can do about it unless the shipping cost is extremely high.

I am sure that you will not agree with me but I do sell on ebay and my flat rate is per item. I do also offer a discount if you buy more than one item from me but my site will tell you that you are paying a flat rate of whatever per item that you win, if you win multiples then I will give a discount. I have to say that the seller was right in this transaction as you won two different auctions. You also have to take into consideration that with shipping charges there are also the fees of packaging which would include all of the supplies and then you have to get it to the post office to be shipped so there are other fees over what you see on the postage paid. I think that most people forget about all of this to when they are complaining about the cost of shipping. I know that with what I spend just on supplies a lot of times I don't charge enough for the shipping.

Some people charge a lot because they buy high quality materials to ship the products in, and also perhaps they buy insurance for your package so that it will be covered if something should happen to it on the way to it's destination. But I do agree that a lot of the shipping charges seem ridiculously high. It's one thing that keeps me from putting more bids in on Ebay and/or other auction sites, actually.

I am under the impression "flat fee" means no matter what it costs the seller to ship it, the buyer pays $5. I have sold a few items in the past this way also--so that if the winner lives 25 feet from my house, the shipping is the same as if the winner lived 3000 miles away.
My beef is with sellers who charge $15 to ship a cd. Argh.

I have been a regular user on ebay from the word go. And until just last month I have never had a shipping problem (other than one looser who conveniently lost the package and I never got a refund).
I have always made a rule of asking about cheaper postage if I combine wins or cheaper postage methods if I know there are some available, if the person says no, I dont buy from them unless I have too.
But even when you confirm postage and its stated the price on the invoice, some sellers, will come back asking for more, because "I underquoted", what aload of hog wash.
I recently got threatened with being blackmarked and reported to ebay if I refused to pay an extra $2. But for a month I had nasty emails from this guy, the original postage from the website started at $17 with discount if multipule purchases where won, the prices then kept changing every few days from $17-$12-$27-$13-$16. I couldnt believe this guy. I paid the full $17 to shut him up, then he demanded another $7, then dropped to $2 extra just for his time. I told him to jam it and report me.
Surprisingly my parcel arrived safely within a week and it was undamaged and he left me a good rating, maybe he didnt want his 100% good rating to get destroyed. I havent left him feedback yet, it makes me wonder how many more people he's tried this tooo.

When I list things, I tend to estimate the shipping cost. Sometimes I'm a little high, sometimes a little low. As long as it's close, I don't worry about it. I figure that it'll all equal out in the long run.

did you take this issue with the auctioneers??? after winning the bid you will be given some time within which you have to pay incase you dont pay , then you will forfiet the winnings.... when they would have done the auctioning then your bid along with all the charges would be displayed... They can charge nothing other than this.... if they do anything like this then you can take it up with your auctioneer,.... hope your issue will be sorted out soon

Reguardless of whether or not you misunderstood, I do think people charge insane amounts for shipping on ebay. I'm a buyer and occasional seller on ebay and when I sell, I make sure my shipping prices are realistic. If I'm selling something small that I know will only cost $1 or so to ship, I just give the buyer free shipping and I handle it myself. I realize that people need to buy shipping supplies and all, but seriously something like an eyeshadow (that's the kind of thing I usually buy) does NOT cost $7 to ship, even with the bubble envelope and all that. It really is frustrating.
