My daughter thinks she would like to buy a video camera to take short clips of her daughter. I am not a video person and my use has been the movie mode on my didital cameras. I have a Canon A530 that takes great stillsand seems like it takes good video but I have nothing to compair it to. I have checked sites like youtube and it compairs favorably to those videos.
My I have purchased two video cameras and never seem to use them or to viewthe videos. I perfer the still photography and find it easier to share.
Do you think that my daughter would be better off with a good digital camera with a movie mode or should she spend the money on a video only camera?

Well, I guess it's all about how serious she wants to get into video.
I have a digicam that shots great video but a stand-alone vidcam is best for the dedicated videographer.
My opinion is that if she's not going into heavy video taking then a digicam that shoots 640x480, 30fps, continuous video should be sufficiant.

I think it's best she gets a digicam, like u said, and see if she likes it.
The Canon you have takes good video so why don't u lend her your cam for a week and see if she likes it?
She should be able to decide from there what to do.

Just remember that a digicam shoots only as much as your memcard will hold... so get big cards.

I have several media cards, both SD and CF, and when one of my family wants to buy a camera I point them in the direction of a camera that uses SD or CF so we can share them when traveling. I use the smaller ones that come with the camera as storage disks for documents to go. I was able to purchase a pocket size cared read writer that plugs directly into the USB port. A great way to use the cards that come with the camera.
