I was thinking about this tonight, when giving my cat a bit of tuna out a can and watching her go mad for it even as i was opening the tin. I've never come across a cat that didn't like tuna. Most cats tends to have varying tastes regarding a lot of foods. I've known some cats to like bacon and others not to. Some to like fish that you get from the fish & chip shop, others to turn their noses at it. Some cats seems to like the ham & turkey etc that you get in packets to put in sandwiches, but not all cats. some cats prefer dry food and other prefer tinned foos. Tuna is the only food i've come across that all cats seem to universally love. Why is this? Have you ever known of a cat that doesn't like tuna?

Actually I do! My cat will kind of smell it and walk away LOL she doesn't mind if it's mixed with other seafood but if it's only tuna then that's what she will do. Shrimp, lobster, white fish, salmon, crab, she is fine with all that!

My cats absolutely love tuna and as soon as they hear the tin being opened they go wild.
They jump up and miaow like maniacs until I put it down for them.
Its so funny to watch. The only problem is when I want tuna I have to shut the kitchen door and do it as discretly as possible before they get a wiff!!

Well my cat loves tuna. REAL tuna from the can. But I read while back its BAD to give cats "real" tuna. I hear just stick with the kind that comes in their food. Something about "real" tuna has a process in it that is bad for cats but okay for people?
I still let my cat have it on occasion but LITTLE amounts.
I found this online maybe it will help explain what I read. I put the beginning of the article and the url for the rest. Okay?
Why is tuna fish bad for cats?
Cats can develop yellow fat disease from having too much tuna.
Tuna fish, and many other fish species, contain relatively large amounts of unsaturated fats. Although health-minded people eat fish to decrease their consumption of saturated fats, the excessive unsaturated fat in a cat's diet may be harmful.
Tuna and certain other fish possess very little vitamin E. Vitamin E is an important antioxidant. When a cat's diet consists mostly of tuna fish that is not commercially formulated as cat food, the cat becomes deficient in vitamin E. Dietary unsaturated fats from the fish are oxidized by a biochemical called peroxidase into a substance called ceroid. Since the affected cat has low vitamin E levels, this oxidation process is not restrained. Ceroid, an abnormal, pigmented, yellow-brown breakdown product of unsaturated fat oxidation, is formed and deposited in fat cells. The result is yellow fat disease (steatitis).

Strange as it seems, my cat hates tuna fish. We put some down for her and she sniffed at it and turned her nose up.
We aren't totally sure why, but when she was still in Shelter (she's a rescue cat) they told us that she refused to eat canned cat food. She just did not like it.
So, we feed her dry Whiskas, turkey and chicken flavor, and she goes mad for it, but we decided to try her with a little bit of tuna one day and she didn't want to know.
I don't know whether she's the same with all fish, I haven't tried. We also got some Salmon treats for her and she's a bit iffy with those too. It's almost as though she doesn't like the smell of them. Can't say I totally blame her there!

All I can say about my cat is that they like the smell of tuna, the sound of the can opener opening the can, and the sight of the tuna meat!!! My cats also act lng savages whenever I open them a can of tuna and after their meal, they go to a corner and lick themselves clean and act like normal cute cuddly cats. I had one cat that didn't like tuna for a week though, she wanted sardines. After that, she went back to eating tuna. So pretty much, tuna is the all-time favorite of cats.

I've probably had at least 4 dozen different cats over the last 10 years (I have kinda a pet foster home), but the cat I have now, his name is Bandit, won't touch or even go near any type of wet food and only certain kinds of dry cat food. He definately is a finicky cat!!!!! This is the first time I've ever had a cat that was that picky about what he ate. The only thing other than Whiskas that I've found that he will eat is homeade liver treats. But, I have yet to ever have an animal go through this house that will turn away from them. If you want to try it, all you have to do is buy some beef or chicken liver, cut it up and boil it for about 5-7 minutes and then stick it on a baking sheet and cover it will garlic powder. Cook at 350F for about 40 minutes and let it cool.

Well my brother's cat does not like tuna at all. Actually his cat won't eat human food of any sort. Our cats though love tuna. When you think about it though in the wild cats would eat fish so it makes sense that they would want it. Natural instincts kick in. They do the same with chicken as well, another food they would eat in the wild.

I've found though that my cat won't eat all fish, for some reason, and wondered why specifically she loves tuna so much!
I'm not sure if she likes chicken, i know she likes chicken cat food (though she only eats a small amound of tinned food) but i've not let her eat any bit of proper chicken yet. I have a feeling she's like it though!

No, I haven't. Cats like tuna because cats are omnivores and therefor like anything. I could observe on my indoor cat, that she mainly enjoys meat. This includes: pork, mutton, lamb, fish, you name it! If you would have a fish tank (with fish in it, of course), then you could observe that the cat would at first stare at "the interesting living beings inside" and afterwards try to catch them... (I know this from personal experience)

Rain loves tuna and she gets it twice a day usually (yes, she is spoiled rotten). We give her just a bit so a can will last two days, but she loves her fishy-fish. We give it to her while we are eating, but she still comes over to inspect our food. Then turns up her nose and goes back to the tuna as if to say, "Why are you eating that?"
And, she clears her palate after her tuna (every single time) with a few bites of her dry Purina ProPlan.
We tried giving her tuna-flavored cat food and she snubbed it...she didn't take even one bite; the same with other wet cat food and she hates cat treats.

Tabitha, Leo and Puss, my now deceased cats, used to love to lick a nearly-empty tuna can. I scooped out most of the solid tuna out for myself and gave them whatever was left --- and they all took turns licking the inside of the can clean.
And right now, I can only imagine that my Waffles and Columbus would love some tuna. I don't eat tuna that often, but when I do, I will remember to save a little for those cats. And who knows? Maybe the cats will hear me opening up a can of tuna and come running! Anyway, opening up a can of tuna on rare occasions sounds like a good way to add variety to any cat's diet.

I have a cat who doesn't like "people" food. He weighs 22 pounds and is orange tiger. The only thing he eats is dry Whiskas and Fancy Feast Gold. He doesn't drink milk, either, just water.! He is almost three years old, so I don't think he'll change his tastes.

I don't think my cat likes people food either, other than tuna, of course. She makes a show of coming up to us when we're eating and sniffing out food but if we give her a bit she doesn't generally eat it. We don't give her milk as someone said it's not healthy for cats to have too much milk, but i'm sure she'd drink it if she could as she tries to lick the bottom of our cereal bowls if we leave them out!

Good question! But my cats will not eat tuna or anything other than their Purina cat food. They are strange, but sweet! I tried tuna with oil, tuna with water, and they say that sardines are good for them if they have hairballs. My cats won't eat it, but they come around when they smell it. Strange, huh?

MY cat used to not like TUNA believe it or not! She loves it now though. But when she was younger she would arch her back and jump at it sideways. I think she thought it was alive. I have no idea. She was (still is) one weirdo cat.

I have seven cats and not one of them like tuna. I also do not ever feed my cats canned food. My vet recommends only science diet and they like lamb and pork. I never feed my cats table scraps either. My cats are all purebreds and I am very careful about their diets. I want them to be with me a long time and I abide by what my vet tells me.
