There are foods for no medical reason I just cannot & will not eat. For example, Tomatoes, I cannot eat the fruit of the tomato, yet, I will eat spaghetti bolognaise someone else has made using the fruit (as long as I didn’t see them put it in there.. lol), I personally prefer making my own bolognaise from processed/prepacked mix/jars. I will eat tomato sauce but I do prefer BBQ sauce also tomato soup from a can.
Coming into Lent, growing up as a Catholic I was taught we had to eat fish on Ash Wednesday & Fridays (more the fact we could not eat red meat & chicken). The thought of eating fish turns my stomach. I have eaten fish (under protest) so I know I’m not allergic to it. It is just something I dislike eating. I have since learnt a lot of vegetarian meals for that time of year... lol
I know there are people that have allergies to certain foods, a friend of mine is allergic to fish & fish based products, she will die if she comes in contact with even chips cooked in the same oil as fish.
I would probably be labelled as a fussy eater, but why am I and others like me fussy?
Are there foods, you or someone you know cannot, or will not eat? If so do they have a reason?

I have a few major dislikes when it come to foods. First up is seafood. I think it has got to do with the smell (how can anyone eat something that smells that bad!!) and my mum used to cook smoked cod every Friday during Lent (we are catholic) and that turned me off for life. I also dislike any sort of offal cooked or not. It all has a smooth texture and is meant for the bin not your mouth....

Ahhhhh the smell of smoked Cod still makes me puke... lol. My husband still cannot understand how that smell can make me hate all seafood... I try as much as I can, my concession now is I'll cook fish for hubby & daughter, they think I'm going to eat the same as them, but it always seem just a shame when there is only enough for them, & I have to have something different... During lent we go vegatarian... if only I knew how to cook tofu... lol :)

My husband said I should make a white sauce for some fish he insisted on having the other nite, terrible that there was only enough for him & miss 10... lol
I lived with my in laws for a while, granma use to eat a lot of offal, since she & I had to share a kitchen I would insist on notice when she was cooking that, & do my dinner first & get out of there... Only good thing she did teach me a lot of english cooking a lot of low meat cooking like toad in a hole & yorkshire puddings ect.

I love apples, and can eat them any way they are raw or cooked or fried. But applesause in the jar will really make me gag and vomit. I also cannot eat raw fish or liver. I don't like what it looks like.

Looks like the texture thing again, texture of applesauce over the regular apples. Interesting... I agree on the raw fish or liver... yuck... yuck ... yuck.... Thanks for your response

I think you are right about the texture. As, I can eat my homemade applesause. It isn't gritty like in the jar.

Everybody has likes and dislikes. I can't eat onions - I like the taste, but the texture feels like biting down on tinfoil. I can only eat them if they ground up so small I can't detect the pieces.

Thankyou for your response, texture is something I never thought about. Making my teeth go on edge just thinking about biting on tinfoil... lol thanks again.

One veggie I miss is green beans, I love them, problem is my husband & daughter don't so only greens I'll cook for them is green pea's. Once in a while the green bean will slip into the shopping basket, but I can't stand the wingeing from them so that is happening less often.. lol
