I am an adult college student. I have two years until I receive my teaching certificate, and some days I wonder if I will make it! Those are the days I'm forced to come face to face with math! Especially Algebra problems that include fractions. I have three math classes left after this one! Any hints on learning math for the math challenged?

I used to think that I can never do math. When I was 17, I failed my Additional Mathematics paper. I did not understand Differentiation at that time. When I failed the paper, I promised myself I'd study hard for math. And study hard I did.
Every morning, I reached school around 6.50am and school only started at 7.30am. So, after reaching school, I'll head off to the canteen because the lights are bright there and not many students too around that time. That's the time I do Math. I practised and practised. When I did not understand how to solve a Math problem, I'd ask either my friends or my teacher. They are helpful and I appreaciate their help a lot.
All my hard work and endless practice at Math paid off. I scored an A. =) I was so happy.
And when I was doing my pre-university studies, I still practise Math like crazy. I used to spend hours doing only Math, trying to solve every question I came across. My friends used to call me a Math Freak or Math Maniac. Haha! But they were supportive too and we discussed questions that got our minds boggling.
Algebra can be quite easy. Never say that anything is difficult and that you can't do it. You can do it. With determination, patience and most importantly, practice. That's what it takes to be good in Math. Practise, practise, practise! And if you can't solve a problem within 15 to 30 minutes, skip the question and try the next one. Refer your math textbooks and study the examples.
There are also online Math forums where volunteers will help you answer your difficult Math questions. They are helpful provided you did your part and tried the questions yourself. They won't help those who don't do their own work.
That's all I have to say. Good luck! You can do it!

Thank you for an extremely encouraging comment! I'm afraid that I have been a bit lax in spending the time that I need to spend in order to really understand what I'm doing.
However, I just started attending a math tutoring lab this past week, where the people seem very friendly and helpful.
It sounds as if you really became very proficient in math! Congratulations!
With more work, I will try to do the same!!

Haha! It's okay, at least the practice paid off. I don't intend to further my studies in Math, anyway. Too mind-boggling! And good luck with your classes!

Oh I want to help you but my english is poor and have't think out the way to do it .Now i only to give you some example to encourage yourself to adhere to it .I'm a student from china and in my country the course in university are seperate two classes : the art and the science . The later must study math but the former needn't .
There is an example about studying math ,the girl's major is language and neesn't study math but at the end of her university she want to attend the exam of the postgraduate and at the same time changed her major which need to study math and to attend the exam .Every day she studyed from morning to deep evening at the toilet (because most school of our country have the same time to cut off the power in order to have a good condition to sleep) ,at last she get 149 fraction (the full is 150 ) . It's true !
Encourage for yourself ?
Just insist on and try your best when you feel depress about yourself try to find some example like this to encourage yourself . After this time you'll get more .
There is a sentence : NO pains ,no gains !
Best wishes for you and good luck !

I just got finished reading your other discussion so I know that you have the help that you need already. Which reminds me of a joke. There was a student having trouble with math and she prayed to God to please send her an angel to help her with her math test the next day. After praying, she did not study anymore because she thought that God would send an angel to help her
The next day came and she failed the test. She prayed again that night for God to please send her an angel to help her with her math and please do not send the same angel you sent today because she didnt know anymore about it than I did.
Good luck with your math.Pray for help and then study hard, you will master the math in no time.
