System upgrades, just when you don't want them!

Honest, this is not going to be a whinge ................... Earlier, I was responding to a discussion, with a fairly long but relevant reply. I had spent quite a bit of time writing it and put a lot of effort in it. After checking the grammar and spelling I clicked the respond button. Only to get a page up with a system upgrade notice on it. I tried to click back on my browser but it didn't work, the notice was still there! Everything I had spent time writing was lost! I may be wrong but i've not seen anywhere on here that notified us of a system outage, or had any email notifications to my knowledge. If I did I would have been prepared for it, by opening a new text document and pasting it onto it before submitting. Yes I know I wouldn't have been able to paste it back because i've not reached that level yet but it would have been there for reference, to retype when everything was back to normal again. I do appreciate that myLot system upgrades are inevitable from time to time and they happen to help keep it running smooth, which in turn is a benefit for it's users. I think I speak for most when I say, any improvements made to the site are more than welcomed. I think it would be good for future planned site outages, then some sort of notification would be good for us myLot users. Perhaps an alert message, email notification or a notice on the home page would be good. So all those who have put an awful lot of effort into what they have written could be better prepared in the future.

Yes, I was on when this happened to, but luckily I hadn't typed anything and lost it. I think they should notify us too, even if they are not sure exactly when they are going to do it, just give us a rough estimate of the time and day they are going to it. I know how frustrating it is to lose something though. I typed in a comment once and lost it because my computer had a problem, I was so annoyed because I had to type it all again and I don't think it was as good as what I first put in.

I retyped what I had written too but like you say, it is never as good as the original. I do hope they give a warning in the future, like you say even if they can only estimate a time, its better because then we can be aware and prepared. Thank you for responding :o)

Hey, I;m with you .. I had just written a long reply and I got bumped of too grrrr Most sites will give a warning .. say "In 10 minutes the site will close for maintenance/upgrade" whatever .. if MyLot would do this it would help stop many of the 'lost' replies ... and avoid us gnashing our teeth ...
