American Idol - The Age Factor!

I try to avoid watching American Idol. (who has time?) However, it happened to be on the other night while I was working, and I was blown away by some of the incredibly talented female performers. Quite a competition this season. Yay. What's my gripe? I've been a performer all my life. I look younger than I am. I "still got it" as they say. Yet, on paper, I'm over-the-music-industry-hill. In the case of American Idol, I'm too old to be a contestant yet too young to be a judge. I would love for the producers to mix it up next season and remove the age criteria all together. I'm not saying I would, but I just want to have the *option* to audition if I wanted to! Some of our top American icons are over forty now. Doesn't seem to stop them. Thoughts?

In the UK version (X factor) they pretty much considered anyone, young, old or somewhere in the middle! I'm really surprised that age comes into it, my view is that for some singers their voice actually improves with age.

I loathe American Idol with a fiery passion, but at times I thought it'd be kind fun to audition, especially since I've been told I sing well..and others yet that I'm good at it (though I don't believe it)..friends have said I should someday..kind a way of winning the old argument about my voice I guess lol. I think they should at least adjust the age level a little..for some teens and have the limit for 'older' people to be..forty, it'd be bit better..a little more fair as well.

I agree!!! I think it would really make the show interesting and would tap into an entire new pool of talent..it's a singing competition...do they think the world only wants to listen to those under 30? It could be a great draw for ratings I think...they could have both shows...c'mon Fox...more money in your pocket!!!!
