has the dumbledore in the harry potter movies died between every single movie?

I have heard(and noticed) that in the first movie that dumbledore was different from that of the one in the second movie. one can only speculate that he died. but i also hear that the charactor has died between every single movie and has had to have been replaced every time? what have you heard?

Squash88 is right. Richard Harris played Dumbledore in the first two movies. Sadly he did pass away. He had only taken the role because of his grand daughter. He had been unwilling to commit to the 5 movies the contract called for at the time. She threatened to never speak to him again if he didn't. Richard Harris said he couldn't take the chance she would follow through. So he did take the role but was unable to do more then the first two. In three and fourth they had casted Michael Gambon in the role and he is to be in the fifth movie as well.
