Is it possible to describe yourself accurately in 5 words. Can 5 words convey the depth of who a person really is? I've been asked this question in more than one interview and always struggle because it takes 1,000 words minimum to describe me. What are your feelings on this...could you do it? Is this even a helpful question for an interviewer?

This is actually quite helpful to an interviewer if the interviewee is honest. If you did as well as say several other candidates who've also been interviewed it could be their way of seeing if your characteristics are preferable to the others, sort of like a tie breaker question...
Good strong words to use to describe yourself could include: enthusiastic, adaptable, determined, meticulous, loyal, disciplined, friendly, approachable, focussed, optimistic, thorough, accommodating, conscientious. Some of these word have similar meanings, but think carefuly about your personality, even ask your friends and family to say 5 good words about you, this will help you too, make the people you know do the work LOL. Good luck!

Great input...thank you! I had a nice chuckle about making others do the work! Those are all great descriptive words and I agree they could break a tie!

I dont think you can describe the whole of you in 5 words. You would miss out on alot.
I would start with Wife, Mother, Photographer, Friend, and Subborn. But thats not all of who i am, just little bits and pieces. For instance, you dont see from those 5 words that i do many types of crafts, or that i love to read and travel.
I think for an interviewer they are wanting to know what you consider your strongest points. For a job i would say, Hardworking, Outgoing, Loyal, Dedicated, and Leader. Those are very different parts of my personality that i would point to for a job vs for myself.

Thank you for your post! All ten of your words are important and I think the second set certainly describe what is needed to be the first 5...I hope that makes sense! lol I agree that an employer would need a different description of one's self.
