Cannibal cat

United States

My siblings have a cat in the Philippines and he is pure black. I have seen him in pictures and sometime when I went back home. I was talking to my sister on the phone yesterday and she said that the cat still bites or eats kitties. She told me this story before that NEGNEG(name of the cat) bites the neck of the newborn kitties which made them died or injured. NEGNEG is a male cat and I think he thought that he is a SHE... I find it really nasty since my sister told me that he eats(ewww) the babies. He's a cannibal cat. They still have a younger kitty inside the house and they won't allow her to go outside since NEGNEG is outside the house. He might kill the other cat! I told her to give away the NEGNEG since he seem to be harmful, dangerous and nasty if I thought about it. I told her that he might bit her too. She said that she will return him back to her friend that gave her the cat. Do you have any idea what's wrong with the cat? I grew up living with pets and this is the weirdest a house pet could ever do. Any recommendations on what would she do with the cat? Philippines doesn't have adoption places for animals that's why. Thanks!

She needs to fix this cat ASAP!!! Toms frequently kill (and sometimes eat) kittens to bring the females back into heat so they can breed with them. Once he gets the hormones out of his system, this behavoir will stop.

Thanks for sharing! I'm not sure if they do that in the Philippines though.

There are Vets of course but I don't think my sister would spend that much money to Negneg. Not sure!

Aren't there any vets? I find that hard to believe. Find a vet, have the cat castrated, it's that easy :)

I learned while fostering pregnant cats. That a male will often kill the young after birth so that the female will go in heat faster. She wont go in heat the 12 weeks she would nurse her kittens. So to cut out the wait, males will kill the kittens. Its possible that the cat is male and doing that to get to a female.

It is common for the dog and cat family animals(females), to eat the new born (one only) after littering, as they will be very hungry after giving birth. In your sisters case it is very strange. Better return that cannibal cat back to your sisters friend.

I know that's why it bothers me. Thanks for responding!

I think that cat needs to go back to where he came from. It seems to me that why the person that had it gave it away to start with. You sister shouldn't have to put up with that behavior from a cat and her other cat shouldn't have to live indoors if she/he isn't used to that. It's a shame that the Philippines don't have adoption centers for animals. They could have tried to rehabilitate the cat and maybe neuter him to settle him down a little bit. Good luck to your sister in returning the cat.

Thanks for responding! Philippines doesn't spend that much money to their pets and they don't spoil them either unlike here in US or other countries. It's hard for my sister because she does love Negneg but maybe she needs to let him go since he's beginning to be very harmful.

If your sister truly loves NegNeg like you say she does, she would get him neutered. That's the only way to get him to stop doing what he's doing. Only other way is to have him euthenized because no matter where he ends up, he's going to just keep doing it.

No I do not and I think that she ought to take him to the Vet as this is a very strange thing. I have not heard of this ever, tell her to phone the Vet and get some advise there.

hi there, i'm a filipina and i also have a pet cat. I would highly suggest that you give the cat to others before it can harm your kids but tell whoever will accept the cat of what the cat is doing so they would know what to do. I have also cat before that seems to be brave and always get and killed rat but behavior seems to be different so i give him away, there's something different in the way he looks even to the people around us.... he hehe sounds weird, but better be careful

I don't think nobody will accept Negneg if they knew what's wrong with him that's why my sister is quite not sure on what she's going to do. Thanks for sharing!

my little sisters cat had kittens one time and the mother would always try to harm her kittens as would the dad, so we had to teach both the cats not to harm the kittens. everytime one of the cats did something like start to bit a kitten or something, we would hit the cat on the nose and the cat would turn away. after a few weeks of that the cats were nicer to the kittens.

I just want to add that female cats also eats her own kitties if someone touch them. I had a pet cat when I was young name MIMING (I call all my cat with that name). Before she gives birth at an empty lot and bring her kitties when they are old enough at our house. When construction started on that empty lot, she started delivering under my moms cabinet. Once someone took those kitties because they were already starting to smell and placed them somewhere they wont bother anyone. Oneday I just got suprised when I found out that she ate them. My mom told me its natural for cats do eat her babies if someone touches them. They will think that those are somebody else babies and considered them rivals. Cats are naturally solitary animals, they do socialize with others sometimes but gets nasty when they are on heat

I don't think the mother would do that! We have grown many kittens and we touch them because they are very cute but the mother doesn't end up eating them. Maybe in some scenarios but most likely they wouldn't. Thanks!

It all depends on the cat, some cats don't accept kittens that were touched others do, mine did.

We not only touched The Cat's kittens, but we had to bottle feed them because she got sick & lost her milk when they were a week old. No, most cats will not kill their kittens if they are touched.
