How a single aged person live his/her life in your country?

In China, if an old person loses his/her spouse, some of them will find a new one,esp an old man prefer finding a step wife to take care of him. But an old woman who has a good financial ability will choose to stay alone, like my mom, what they care is their own physical and mental health, sometimes,they will do something useful to their children.My mom often have a talk with us, neighbors, her grandsons and granddaughter, even help us to look after our children. we like to get-together with her in the important festivals for fear her lonelyness.If an old person who has children lives his/her life in beadhouse, his/her children will be regarded as non-filial, and to be laughed at by neighbours. esp in the countryside.
