i grew up in my dad's office and i was witness to how creating images for advertising has evolved according to technology. back in the 90's they used to literaly cut and paste, every artwork was done by hand. now we have computers and great softwares that helps us in creating artworks, images, or however you want to call those things:)
which do you use? freehand, adobe illustrator, or corel draw?
personally i use corel draw x3 because the format is very much like microsoft office where is see what tools can be used on the screen and can experiment with them.

I am a student for computer graphics design and technology. I use autocad. It was a program made by a bunch of math wizards, so everything is backwards. It is awesome. The only engine I know that can make anything from nothing. Well, I do use 3D studio as well, which is better if you are looking to make 3D images. Both are what the professionals use and cost around 1,000$ to buy and about 200$ a month to maintain. So, unless you actually use it and make a living using it like I do, then they aren't for everyone :) Very good programs though.

It really is. As they say, technology is the way of the future. If you really want to make it in this world, you need to study the best stuff. I wish you the best of luck with your studies. It is not an easy program to learn.

I use GIMP because it's great freeware that has the same capabilities as a lot of other software. I sometimes use Inkscape for vector drawings as well [it's also freeware].
