I have been on and off the streets all my life, and there have been times when despite having problems, I have been happy. There have also been times when I have not been happy. I think that having money would definitely be better than living in poverty, but it doesn't matter if you are wealthy or not when it comes to feeling happy.
Many people equate wealthyness with being happy. "Oh, if only I was a millionaire I could be happy" they sigh. I know many wealthy people who are not happy. They seem to have problems with every man and his dog hustling them for thier money!
I thinks happiness starts with being able to appreciate the things in life that are for free. A smile can bring a warm glow to a heart. A ray of sunshine can transform a spider's web into a silver diadem. The sound of the birds and incsect's can bring us happiness. All we need do is appreciate nature.
Of course, having money will open up more options. But happiness is something that cannot be bought.

hmm this is a very hard choice between being rich or happy.. I'll have to go with happy, as long as I can live well and happily. But about you saying that many rich people are scared of being taken advantage of, I'm sure those are the rich people who did bad things in accumulating their wealth. If they become rich in the right way, there's no reason for them to be scared of.
