A worker earns a 5% raise. A year later, the worker receives a 2.5% cut in pay, and now his salary is (22702.68)
What was his salary to begin with????

thanks for responding... yes i thought it that way too..but i thought of posting the more easier and accessable answer.... i love maths and make my brains work just a little harder what it normally does

22176 + 1108.8 {5% raise} = 23284.8 - 582.12{2.5% cut} = 22708.68
i think 22176 is the answer...is that correct?

first 2 numbers its the difference of 1
then 2 numbers its the difference of 4
then 2 numbers its the difference of 9
then 2 numbers its the difference of 16
i think its the difference of squares 1,2,3,4,5....so now the next number would be 61 + 25 = 86 + 25 = 111...etc
is that correct?

good answer but we can solve it also this way:
11+(3*3)=20
20-11+20=29
29+(4*4)=45
45-29+45=61
61+(5*5)=86 ;).

(1.05)X-(0.025)Y=22702.68
Where:
Y=1.05X
leads to X=22176
