I've Got the Blues...or Maybe it is Cabin Fever...or....

Maybe I am just bored. I can't seem to find anything to do lately that is truly of interest other than work on my knitting. Lately I find myself sitting in front of the televisions watching whatever is close to being interesting and working on my grandson's sweater. The cold weather keeps me from venturing outside. Lack of funds keep me away from the shoppes. Boredom keeps me trapped in my home. Cabin fever is setting in.

Oh you have cabin fever alright. I cannot go out when the temps reach below 25F (about -22C) because of my MS and the last 6 weeks have driven me crazy except for Mylot and a few others I work on. Its now above 32F (0 C) and I can go out again WHEN it stops raining (LOL)! Do you have any other hobbies? You can do besides knitting? Do you play games on the inrenet? You need to get up and walk around the house (walk, not do housework) or do exercises for your body chemistry to wake up, too, or you'll be too fatigued.

I have to start exercising again. I have a stationary bike and my sister is giving me a treadmill.

Oh dear, so sorry to hear this. Sometimes the weather can influence ones feelings of blaws. Perhaps you can do something else. Start baking and freezing. The smell of the yummies will get you in a better mood. Or perhaps you can write in a journal, or create a game to play with your family on a cold night with some hot coco. I hope you feel better. Hugs M&M

I made caramel popcorn 2 days ago. Tonight I hope to make a cheesecake. Now if I could only convince myself to get on that exercise bike!

Its called the winter time blues. Its cold out, you get stuck in the house. The sky is grey, the weather is yucky. Think SPRING!! Its coming, just a few more weeks and it will start to warm up and we can think about planting flowers and making summertime plans.

awwww.... i think i understand you, this happens to me every autumn and ends with spring ;)I really loose interest of anything then, only sun can help lol. I was born in wrong country i think, too less sun, too less warm days in year. Ah, maybe music can help you or good warm chocolate? These are things that makes me a bit more happy in these cold, grey days... And of course internet, I can't live without my internet connection lol. Hope you will feel much better soon :) Take care!

I think that sun deprivation has a lot to do with it. We went for a ride in the car today and the sun felt so warm and lovely. And then we had to get out of the car. Zap back to reality.

I have SAD (Seasonal Adjusted Disorder) so I use a SAD light to help me through the short winter days .. it really makes a big difference with how you feel ..

I agree with you its the same with me right now. The last 2 days its been really nice here sunny but windy, but I could not enjoy it because I had to work inside all day. This morning I got up and it was so nice outside I went for a walk. Half hour later the wind came up the temp. dropped and it got cold and started to rain and hail. Now I am stuck back in the house again. I dont even want to go out at all in this kind of weather. I just cant wait for spring..

If we got rain now, the snow would melt and everything would ice over at night. I wish spring would get here in short order.

I think I might be feeling the same hun. I feel like I have been stuck inside for ages, can't face going out as I have no money, can't be bothered with television anymore, just finished reading a book and now I'm bored.

Maybe I should drag out a book to read. I need to find one that will bring me to a warm place. Good idea.

It's not just you. I think many people experience the mid winter blues, especially those that have been hit with snow and aren't the types to go out and enjoy it. What keeps me sane, well as sane as I can be normally.. lol, is taking the time to go out in it for a bit. I love the winter weather but for those that don't, take a few minutes to bundle up and walk outdoors, even if it's just for a few minutes. The sun, the brightness of the snow, and the fresh air will give you a whole new outlook.

When we were outside today it was glorious in the sun, until the wind started blowing. Brrrrrr.

I have been feeling exactly the same way this past week. It's been cold out and there's so much snow on the ground, the days are cloudy and grim, and I just want to sit at the computer or watch mindless TV. There are plenty of things that I would go out and do if I had the money, but right now I'm in the same financial position as you are. I have never gotten this bad in the winter because I have always worked and have been forced to get up and go out every day. I keep telling myself that the days are going to start getting nicer soon, and we'll be outside before we know it! Hang in there- spring is coming!

When I was working I could make a trip to the mall, spend a little money and have a blast. We could go out to dinner in the evening following our shopping venture. I know once we get the first thaw of the year I will feel somewhat better. But, the wait is killing me. : )

Oh dear you really do sound like you have the winter blues, this happens to most of us when the weather is really too cold, and we cannot venture outside, sometimes as well during these times it is hard as there is not much on the television to watch, and when we have not much money to go to the movies or shopping area to get ourselves out of feeling so low well I think that your winter is nearly over now as for me living in Australia I will be happy when this stinking heat is over for me, and I am able to go out more and enjoy the weather.

oh Elusive, I'm so sorry that you're feeling this way. I know how it goes. I'm not feeling so hot myself these past couple of days. I really miss my best friend. She's busy taking care of her boyfriend during his time of illness, which I honestly understand and I am wishing him a great recovery, but I miss her so much, and I just am getting to the point that I feel blah and de-motivated. I get like this when I don't have friends around me. Oh well. At least posting on Mylot helps to some extent. Some days it's helped an awful lot.

How is your friend's boyfriend doing? I too wish him a speedy recovery. Imagine how she is feeling too. Once you look at what others are going through, our whining over our blahs seem so trivial.

As long as you have some intersts that keep you motivated all is not lost. When one loses interst in EVERYTHING we tend to think depression. You mentioned that it is too cold to go outdoors. Can you perhaps do a bit of mild exercise in your home? Even if you put on some favorite music and march in place for 5 minutes, or march around the house. (make sure no one is home lest they think you have 'lost it!') Then the next day try 6 minutes and build up. When we exercise, endorphins (chemicals in the brain) are released and these help boost or mood. I find that when I do this I feel so much better! It boosts circulation too, which is good for all of our joints and even the brain! It won't be too long until Spring...hang in there!

Oh I know how you feel. I have went as far as going to the Dr. He said I am depressed from being in pain all the time and the weather is not helping. I cant get out. I have reached the point that I dont want to get out of the house. I hate feeling like this. I dont like me very much when I feel like this. I just wish that spring would hurry and get here.

Today when I got outside and started walking around I realized how out of shape I have become. Hubby is a fast walker and it is hard for me to move my short pork chop legs fast enough to keep up with him. I was grateful to be outside for a short time, but happier to be able to slow down the pace a bit once we got inside the store. Now I need a nap. LOL

I certainly know that feeling! I spend most of my week indoors, although I do get out and about during the weekend when my partner is home and the kids are not at school. We like to take them out, it keeps them happy and healthy, and they're not bored. Sometimes they'll go to a friend place so that my partner and I can get a few things like grocery shopping done on our own Weekdays are pretty bad sometimes though. Although since I discovered MyLot the day tends to disappear without me even realizing it LOL.

My kids are grown and live on their own. The grandkids have not been feeling well so we do not have them over for a visit. When the grandkids are here there is never a dull moment.

Hmm. I know that kind of feeling, even though it´s not cold where I live. Maybe doing some exercise at home will help you. Or try to listen to some music instead of watching the television. Something groovy might have a positive effect on your mood (no joke). Hope this is just a phase you´re going through. Warm regards Dana

We usually have music playing all day long. Hubby's taste differs from mine and I choose to not listen to his selection most of the time. I too hope it is a phase too. I feel it is just sun deprivation.

We just got back from shopping. It was a nice break, but the air was freezing! If the wind wasn't blowing it would have been great.

I feel like it is spring fever. We had a couple of really nice days, but I was too busy to really soak up the sun. Here I am myLotting, when I should put on clothes, go out and make a purchase or two, with expiring coupons, and get some housework done. How was your three day venture? I keep saying "Step away from the keyboard" but there is alswys just one more post to do. It is not cold here now, but is supposed to get that way later today, so I really should get going. I get to stay home tonight, no work, no training, no practices, no classes.

The 3-day venture was great. But, we spent everyday inside the house. It really is getting to me being couped up all day and all night.

I am begining to feel the same way myself. I have no idea what to do with my time these days, because I am so limited in what I can do. I want to go shopping also, but it is no fun by myself, and my hubby is no company shopping. Then, there is nothing to do indoors, but the same things I always do. Outdoors, I gardened as much as I could, but it is getting cold this week, so that doesn't look very appealing either. I can't even go to work outdoors, because I am chained to the phone here, answering client calls, so really, I am feeling cabin- feverish myself. Yesterday, I baked cookies, and I don't think I want to do that again. I hope I can come up with something to do, because I feel as though my routine has landed me in a slump.

So, it's not just me then? I've been all sad and bored sick for awhile. New job and home, but between the stress and my mother's anger,I'm looking foward to sleep from the start of the day. I don't know how else to describe what I'm feeling,ya know? But that's the closest I can get. :) Hope it goes away soon!

I hate that feeling. I think this is the time of year it is worse, too. At the beginning of winter, everyone is so excited for cold weather and snow. But, by this time Spring is looking OH SO GOOD! LOL It will be over soon! I am in Texas and it has been unusually cold here this year, but the last few days were great! Hang in there and just know that it won't be long before you can get out and plants pretty flowers or take a long walk.

I did want to see snow. It took a while to get snow this year. Now that we have it, I am ready for it to go away! Maybe I should force some bulbs. That will give me the sense of spring.
