Are You A Professional Student?

A professional student is defined as one who is constantly in school. They move from university to university, one degree to another degree but still the need for education does not go away. Some say that this is only because of a fear of real work. They would love to work, but fear they are not qualified even though they are. Are you a professional student or do you know someone who is?

My sister kept changing majors and she even passed most of the classes. She didn't know what she wanted to be. She said she kept staying in school just to avoid getting a minimum wage job. Then my parents got fed up with it and finally told her to stop going to school because lots of money being wasted. She is good in writing so I'm trying to find some freelance writer jobs.

hi coolchic101, thanks for responding. I see that 'you' are the one trying to find freelance writer jobs. but what about your sister? she is the writer correct?:) uuhhmmm, wonder if there's any truth to the thinking that 'professional students' are afraid of the work world?

oh no coolchic, no confusion, I understand you were helping your sister out, that's why I wrote you as 'you'. Hopefully she finds something soon, then we can know for sure if she just wants to remain a student hehehe

I am not a profesional student but I love to study and learn new things everyday; I also love the enviroment that the students have around, that means a lot for me. I really enjoy going the school, at my age I like to learn about arts and new languages.

I agree, and we learn something new everyday. In this case though I am talking about people who get up every day and get dressed for school, when they should be going to work. I know one personally and it's time she gets a job:)

Oh no, I'm not a professional student. I'm all set to work but unfortunately can't just yet since I don't have work authorization to work yet. Learning is a continuous process but at the same time what we learn needs to be utilized somewhere. I've already done MBA and plan to do another Masters soon.

please don't get in trouble for working without authorization. You are right about the continous process of learning and hopefully you know that's not what I was referring to, but I do know someone who has all that is needed to go to work, but would rather stay in school. Thanks for commenting.

My uncle was a professional student for 16 years or so. He now has a very good job with lots of benefits. He is doing very well. He was not afraid of working. He just liked to learn.

Being a Professional Student is not a negative thing, and I hope that's not the message I had sent. I too stood around the study tank for a long time. I still love school and structured learning. I say kudos to your uncle!
