i adopted a greyhound about 6 months ago and it's a great fit, except for one thing: he is extremely fearful of noises. he doesn't want to go to the corner bar with us and sit outside because of the chatter; he hates intersections because of the sound of so many cars, etc.
what can i do to put this to rest? how can i assure him that he shouldn't be scared?

I've watched several episodes of Cesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer) where he deals with fearful dogs. Two main ideas that come through to me are plenty of exercise, specifically walks where you are a confident leader, and not reinforcing the fear by babytalk or giving attention/affection to a dog in a weak state of mind.
Are you able to watch this show or get the DVD's of the shows? You might pick up some valuable ideas.

i have seen the show, but they run that disclaimer at the beginning that scares me. like somehow i'll strangle my dog or something.
i do walk my dog (mojo) every morning for about 30minutes, and he goes on 20 minute walks in the afternoon and evening, but i must admit it's hard to not comfort him when he's obviously so scared!

I would not press it! Try bringing some little treats or a favorite blanket or toy. The fact is, your Grey may not be a social butterfly and will always be noise sensitive. That's ok, some humans are like that too!
