I always thought this was crazy and not sure if all Subways are like this but when I worked there years ago we were told by our boss that the olives were for decoration. He always wanted us to put 4 on a 6 inch and 8 on a footlong. Was this your policy as well or was my boss nuts?

When I worked at Subway, we were told to put 2 on a 6-inch, 4 on a foot-long. If someone asked for extra, you gave twice as many, BUT you had to charge them .30 extra under the extra-cheese button on the register. Those are some pretty expensive decorations! LMAO

I have strong feeling about this type of stuff,,,if I am paying you for food, give me enough food to taste! Olives on a sanwich are for flavor as far as I am concerned!

I am sure that through out the day there were tons of people that didn't want olives on their sandwich ... so that means that putting four on a half or eight on a whole is penny pinching to the highest extreme. Olives for a decoration .. that's like saying salad dressing is great for windows LOL.
+ feedback for an extremely original thread

so that's why they always shaft me on the olives!! i was just talking to a friend of mine about that -- the subway on my corner never gives you more than a sprinkle of olives, even when you tell them you want a lot. this is how our conversation goes:
them: "what vegetables do you want?"
me: "just black olives"
them: "okay" (dots three on my sandwich)
me: "no, i want a lot of them"
them "okay" (dots another two on)
lol i always thought it was the guy working behind the counter!! after i've asked for them twice, i feel mean correcting him again. now i know why!

I think your boss was nuts. Or maybe he was just being cheap. My sister owns a catering business and yes, she uses olives as decorations on some of her trays. But when someone asks for olives on a sandwich I doubt they want you to just 'decorate' the sandwich with them.

I think your boss was just stingy. When we go they almost always put lots of olives on the sandwich which is a good thing because we both love olives. It is spinach they usually never put enough of, so now I ask them to put the spinach on first and then the other stuff. I hope you found a better job by now, as it is hard to work for stingy people.

Some people can't eat olives let alone stomach them or they have food allergies. When going to subway we get to pick our own veggies that we want on them. If asked for olives they have always put a ton on them. I think your boss was a nut case.

Olives have flavor, but they are not a pungent flavor. I expect that they are expensive, too. I would not really know for sure. However, I do buy some sort of an olive relish.. called tampenade, I think, which made of almost exclusively olives. I do not buy expensive stuff, so I do not think olives are all that tremendously costly.
I guess the management is trying to save pennies like when McDonald tried only give ketchup if you remembered to ask for it when you were in line.

I think maybe it's changed because now they usually give you more olives that this. I think that olives are much more than decoration as I love them and am slightly addicted to them! I don't think that something that tastes so good to some people and so bad to others should be used as a 'decoration' anyway, they shouldn't automatically be added as lots of people just don't like them.
