You know how the moon gets freakishly close to the earth right? Why wouldn't the weather change? Something like that would screw up the atmosphere. In any sense of reality the mountain's volcanos would erupt, the swamp would build up, the ocean's tides would flood, and the Inca river would overflow. It would be total chaos. The town's people should be worried about the ocean, not the moon.
