$1,300 worth of old bills was found stuck in the pages of a book bought for a child at a thrift store recently - wow! Now, this money was so old that upon changing it at the local bank, the girl who found the money only got $300 because of some of the bills being old and in pieces, etc. But still, the book was only bought for a quarter! That's one heck of a return, isn't it? LOL! The most that I've ever found laying around (money-wise) is maybe a five dollar bill!
So, what do you think of the above story? How much money have you found laying around?

Me it was only about £15 (about $30) that was flying around in a supermarket carpark, wasnt sure what to do with it, wether to hand it in at the supermarket or keep it.
In the end I kept it, I thought that if i handed it in it would just end up in the pocket of a worker there.
But when it comes to wallets and stuff I alway hand in at the police station.
Found an expenseve mobile phone once, rang the home number on it and got it bact to the person that had lost it.

ive never just found money lying around, id say that book was a pretty good purchase. it would be nice to just find money lying around but id probably end up turning it in to try and find who lost it (obviously with the book that wouldnt be necessary andymore, whoever lost it would have lost it so long ago)

I found some dollar bills in the dryer at the laundromat once. That is about all for me.
My daughter was finding various bills on the ground at the flea market/swap meet event we go to every year. She has always been lucky.
A book like that would be wonderful to find.

It seems like when you're younger you always find things, but once you get older you luck seems to fade

Great story that was a treasure found. I once found a purse with about 2 grand within the folds of the oversized wallet. It was left in a shopping cart outside of the store. I returned the purse to the store manager and from the look on his face I thought better of it snatched it back and called the lady personally to come and pick up her purse from my home. She was very greatful and offered an award of $100 however I did not accept it because I belive that everyone should try to return things to there rightful owner and not look at it as their lucky day. Best wishes

i recently found a phone laying on the sidewalk and picked it up, called the number listed on the back and left a message. i called my phone from the phone and left a voicemail for the owner, if they had thought to check their own voicemail or call the phone. no on responded for a week and a half and i decided to sell it on ebay... i made $20 but now i'm afraid the person will track me down or something!
but i mean, honestly, i left messages and i figured people can't go that long without their phone. the person must have gotten a new one... right?

I've found $18 in the parking lot of a gas station. I turned it in though and the owner pocketed it. If I had known he was going to do that I wouldn't have been so stupid to turn it in. My husband however found over $1200 in an envelope in the parking lot of a Walmart. He held on to it and checked in all the time to see if anyone had reported that they lost the money and no one did so it was ours to keep.

Wow that would be nice eh!! Lucky girl.
I always love when you put your winter coats on for the first time of the season and find money in the pockets. I think the most I've ever found was 20.00 Actually it wasn't me that found it, it was my son. It was just laying there on the ground. I can't recall ever finding anything worthwhile mentioning.

While vacationing in Washington, DC a few years ago my family and I were walking through a park early in the morning. There was no one else around us when I looked down and saw what appeared to be a rolled up 20 dollar bill. I picked it up to find that it was many 20 dollar bills rolled up...a total of 200 dollars!

Believe it or not! We went on a ski trip in Banff Alberta Canada in the late 80's. We were standing outside of our hotel when we heard sirens. Apparently the old bank was on fire. Now this is the unbelievable part.......maybe the money got caught in a current of warm air from the fire, but suddenly it was raining money. Bills of all denominations were floating down all around us. It was so bizarre. My kids were grabbing money out of the air. Just as suddenly as it started it stopped.

I found a fake 50 pound note when I was a kid in my uncles arcade.
The most real amount would probably be £20. I've never kept if I could see or know where it came from, most of the time as a kid it was my elderly neighbour.
Kudos

P.s That's a lot of money to be found inside a book, makes you wonder where it came from. do you know?

I've found a $10 on our driveway once. I asked my partner if he'd lost a $10 note and he said no. So we kept it. There would have been no way of knowing where it came from - there was nobody walking along the back alley where the driveway was (we've moved since) and so we came to the conclusion that the person who lost it must be long gone.
If I find a wallet or a purse lying around I hand it in to either the police, or if it's in a store, I hand it in to a member of staff. I've found that honesty is the best policy in times like this, because if you keep something you found that doesn't belong to you - karma will come bite your a$$.

The most money that I ever found was £20 (US$40) in a cinema when I went in ... so whoever left it was long gone. So I took it and bought some popcorn and a drink and put the coins I had in a charity box and the note went to dinner with my family.

The most money that I have found laying around was $200 at the ATM machine at a local bank but I did not take it as I felt very suspicious about it and its location. It also could have been counterfeit and with the camera pointing there I just left it there.

She made out pretty well! It almost makes me want to go out to the flea market in the morning and browse through all of the old books there. They always have tons of older books that are really cheap- most of the time 25 cents. Wouldn't that be a great find! I have never found money other than change laying on the ground.

The most money I ever found was around $50.00 as this was in a hotel at the table where people sit down there was no one actually inside the bar, as it was a Sunday and I did not know at the time that the bar was only for guests on a Sunday and as the waiter came over and told us to leave I reached down for my handbag and found the $50.00 so I was very happy and felt oh well I did not go into the bar for nothiog and had a great day spending some of the money I found.

This would be a lot like finding a lottory ticket that has won.
The chances of this happening to the avarage person is not good.
While it use to be common practice for people to put there money in hiding this way, mostly for people who lived through the depresion, the chances of who ever gave the bood to the thrift store no finding it first would be poor. And this why would the thrift store over look it.
Of course all of this is possible but whoever was fortunate to find it had a very rare find indeed.
My instict would be to try to piece back togeather the bad bills and do what I could to preserve them. But that is just me.

I once found a 20. bill in one of my daughter's jean pockets. Well, I thought about keeping it, but I finally told her that I'd found it. If it was only a dollar or two, I'd keep it. Other than that, I've never found a large sum of money..it always happens to someone else. That is quite a story you told.
