Is attack the best defense?

Hubby seems to think so. And I guess it works for him. Once he is "attacked" instead of answering to the accusations, apologize or even think about them, he immediately "counterattacks" with something else, often not even related to the discussion hehe It doesn't work with me, because.. hey we've know each other for a long time.. I know it's going to happen. But it does happen with other people. I've seen it happening :) The person is stunned with the reversing of roles and starts trying to defend himself/herself. I find it interesting. What do you think? DOes it really work as a rule?

I can see how it will be interesting to use it on a discussion that we don't want to have. But sometimes those discussions are needed... TO be honest I wouldn't call it witt, it looks more like a defensive move to me :)
