I had a strange thought the other day. I was wondering if there was a market for uterus transplants. I am not using mine and don't plan to. Would there be someone who wanted to have a baby of their own who had perfectly fine ovaries and eggs but had an inhospitable uterus that might be interested in having mine?
They seem to transplant everything else. I even heard about a face transplant on the news. What do you think?

That's a very generous offer..As a trasnplant patient I dotn see that being a very realistic transplant soley because the medications used on transplant patients(to keep the body from rejecting the new foreign organ) would make having a healthy baby a very difficult task.. The medications can kill, deform, and harm fetuses.
I think they have been doing the transplant on monkeys for a few years and they just did the first operation on a human. She only kept her new uterus about 100 days it failed. It's a very noble thing for you to look into though. I'd ask my gyno about it. Would you ever be a surrogate?

I didn't even think of the anti-rejection meds. I am such a silly girl. I hadn't thought of being a surrogate because I can't afford to take time off work to have a baby or I might consider having one of my own. I would be concerned about getting too attached the moment I felt it kick me.

What an unselfish and generous thought! I'm surprised it's something I've never heard about - as you say the surgical advances these days means virtually nothing is untransplantable - why on earth not a uterus? I suspect it's because not many women have thought about donating them and I'd imagine more women have children and need theirs than the other way around (I'm just speculating though). Are you talking about donating yours now whilst alive because that would be an incredibly selfless gesture and not one that many would make.

I am not using it and it is just causing me discomfort every month with cramps. I would love to get rid of it. And if someone else could use it, that would be a bonus. I want to find a doctor and get an exam. I haven't gone to the doctor in about 3 years. I really should.

What an odd think to part with! However, that would be a great thing to give to a woman that really wanted kids. I've never heard it being done. Maybe you just come up with a great idea. Face transplant I could never do and I think it's pretty darn creepy! If you lost a loved one and then you see someone walking around with your loved ones face! How would that make you feel?

I saw on the news that they have started uterus transplants. If you were to consult a gynecologist about it ,she would probably be able to tell you how to go about it.Good luck with it.
