Cats and poisons.

My sister posted a discussion about different things that are poisonous to cats, as she knows of the terrible experience that we suffered last week with our two kittys. Our little Charlie died last monday after eating a piece off of a bouquet that I received at my book signing. I did not know about the danger, as I have always been allergic to flowers so I have never had many occasions to receive them or even know what they are. Both cats got into them and the female, the black one in the picture, which is Sissy just came home today after a week in the hospital fighting for her life! There were lillies mixed in the bouquet. I will never bring another lillie in my home ever!
It has been a rough week dealing with this. We will miss our sweet Charlie forever.

My poor sis. I am so sorry for all the stress and unhappiness this has caused you. But, you can see by my post, a lot of people do not know these things. That is why I made that post, it was actually for "Charlie." Love you, Mee

I didn't want to hurt you anymore than you were hurting, so I didn't go into the exact reason that it was posted. I didn't want you to feel guilty. Love you. Thanks for best response. Meow and purrs from Charlie.

I know why you did it honey and I am glad you did. Maybe it will help save someone elses kitty, so that they won't have to die such a terrible way. Love you sis, Dee

I had no idea either Sandy. Thank you for your kind words. If I had only known, they would have never gone home with me. Hopefully Margieanne's and my posts will help save someone else from going through this. Hugs back to you.

I didn't either, but lillies are deadly for cats. It has been rough. Charlie was so smart and such a sweet boy. We have told people we wouldn't have been surprised if he started talking. :) He would wake my husband up every morning at 5:15, never needed an alarm. Never could figure out how he knew what time it was. If you go to your search engine and ask for plants that are poisonous to cats, it will name each one. It is a very large list too.

I am so sorry about Charlie, Dee. I hope Sissy will be feeling 100% soon also. I love animals also and it is natural to grieve for them as much as a family member when they pass. I wasn't aware that so many things were poisonous to cats. We have a dwarf rabbit at the moment and I read the other day they cannot have chocolate and you must be very careful with iceberg lettuce and fruits. We have been giving Pixie lettuce since we got her so are now being extra careful. Does anyone know if there is somewhere we can find out what is poisonous to any of our pets?

Thank you so much for your kindness. It has been a terribly long week, but we have Sissy home now. She did pretty good last night and is eating a little more this morning. We have no idea how much of her kidneys will be able to regenerate yet, but we are so happy we still have her. On your search engine type in poisonous things to pets and you will get a big list. Depending on you search engine you might have to try different wording , but keep trying, the list is in there. If you can't find it send me your email address and I will forward it to you. Thanks again.

OH I am so sorry of your loss. I love my cats too so I know how you must feel. I had no idea she was your sister. I commented on her discussion. I hope you are able to deal with this. I just dont know what to say to make you feel better. I am thinking of you.

Thank you so much for your kindness. I know some people think we get too attached to our pets, but I would rather do that than abuse them like you hear of people doing. Our pets are part of our family and it was almost as painful as losing a child and I know that pain too. God Bless You.

I am sorry to hear about the loss of your sister's pet .
I didn't realize this was dangerouns but then when I think about it , I have always heard that tinsel for a tree was dangerous to a cat as they play with is and then eat it and it gets wrapped around their bowels so it would probably be the same with something like this .

It wasn't my sister Kitty, it was mine and thank you for your kindness. I thought I uploaded a photo, but it didn't come out, so I will try again. The white one is Charlie, the black one is Sissy.
