What did you want to be when you grew up?

Has anyone actually grown up and become what they wanted when they was a child? Like a nurse, doctor etc. When I was a kid I always wanted to be an astronaught, the funny thing with that is, you have to be fit and healthy and I am a bad asthmatic. Now I am a stay at home mum. Please tell me your stories about what you wanted to be and if you did become that or not.

I'm sure that as a kid I had the usually dreams but I really don't remember what they were. I know from the time I started highschool and took typing classes and computer classes, it was something that I really enjoyed. My dreams aren't lofty. I enjoy secretarial/receptionist work. It's comforting and I had alot of fun. It's what I do when I'm not busy being "mom".. lol.. now I'm trying to get it started from my home so that I can do both at once.

I am glad that you are doing something that you really enjoy. There are so many people out there that hate their job. Good luck with getting it started from home, hope it all works out for you. Thanks!

I always wanted to be a vet when I was a little kid. I just thought it would be the coolest thing to hang out with animals all day. Then as I got older I realised that a lot of the animals that vets deal with are really sick and injured... so I decided it wasn't really for me. Then I decided that I wanted to be an architect. I still had that dream in high school and even was prepared to do the six years study that being an architect required. Unfortunately my marks weren't high enough to get me into the course. My career ended up in teaching, working with kids with autism. I did that many years till I felt like I needed a change... then I did a lot of different jobs from working in an office to landscaping! At the moment I currently work from home, selling second hand books online and am loving it. So for the near future, I will continue to do what I am doing!!!

I can understand why you changed your mind from being a vet. It is a pity that your marks were not high enough to get into architect. It can be hard sometimes. It sounds like you have found something that you love to do anyway and you are happy, so that is the main thing. Thanks!

My mom says that when she went back to work when I was little I told her I wanted to stay home with my kids forever, at least until they are were in kindergarten, and maybe longer. I wasn't sure how long forever was, since I was only about three. :) Then when I got a little bigger I decided I wanted to be a nurse, just like my mom, or a teacher just like my grandma. I eventually decided I didn't want to be a nurse because I hate seeing people in pain. I didn't want to be a teacher because I hated going to school myself. I eventually one day just decided I was going to cut hair. I signed up for it the very next day and I've never looked back. It was something that I had been doing for my sisters since I was in sixth grade, though. Anyway, now I stay home with my son most of the time. I only work on Saturdays when Daddy is home with him. I just hope that I can do what my mom says I first wanted to, and stay home with him for forever, or at least until he's in kindergarten. :)

I wanted to be a veterinarian. I love animals and wanted to take care of them. Well, I never became a vet, but I did end up working as a kennel attendant, one of the jobs I had was even at a vet hospital! Even though I never become a vet I was still able to take care of animals, just like I always wanted. :)

I always wanted to work in the entertainment industry. Model or actress. I did model for a while when I was in my teens, but since having a child, cannot go back. I would like to get back into the industry but working as a talent manager or something. Although where I live right now, the industry isn't all that prevalent, so I may have to either commute (which I hate) or move (which I don't want to do). I would also like to get into real estate, flipping houses, but right now don't have the $$$ to do so.

I always wanted to be a Canadian Mounted Policeman. Unfortuneately my family moved from Canada to Scotland so it made the reality become more of a dream.
