I remember as a kid the huge problem we had with flees in our house. We had a cat and unfortunately flees live and feed off of animal and human blood. I remember my sister and my dad being the two who were always bit, must have been something about their blood. I also remember sitting on the carpet looking throughh it trying to find flees and placing them in hot water once found. I was young at the time so I don't remember the name of the product, but there was also something to get rid of them (a cycle that took place over a period of 3 months) They sure aren't an easy thing to get rid of and I remember it took months to free our house of them. I remember my parents saying that they suspected we had picked them up in a place we were renting at prior to moving into our new home. Have you ever had flees in your house? How long did it take to get rid of them and how did you do it? Did you get bit a lot? How do you suspect you got them in the first place?

Every August we get a flea epidemic. We bring them in from the grass out front since our cats are indoor cats. They start itching and my husband starts getting bit (but not me!). We steamclean our rugs and furniture and add a anti-flea liquid in that mix from the steam clean rental store. The cats get bathed with flea shampoo. It always worked for us. Occasionally if reinfested, we use the Raid Flea bombs and keep the cats on the screened in porch with us as it works inside.

Yes you are right fleas do live off animals and human blood. Yes it would of been their blood that the fleas like to of own bitten your sister and father. Oh yes I have had fleas in my home as we own a small dog and he used to play with the cat next door and would catch the fleas from there. We got rid of the fleas using a flea bomb, and also used advantage on the dog to get rid of his, as the dog could not be left in the house when we did this. No I was never bitten or any of my family members.

I had a horrible problem with fleas a few years ago after leaving my cats at my parents while I went out of town. I spent a few weeks using sprays and a combination of home remedies, which worked OK. Then I discovered the magic formula: any kind of flea spray with Nylar in it. This stuff works wonders, and the fleas were gone within a few days! Of course, be sure to get your pets treated, too, or fleas may escape the spray by living on them.

I had one house in particular that I had a big flea problem with during the summer. My animals were bathed often. At the time there was an internal medicine that they could take that keep fleas from living on the animals. (Since then - its been pulled from the market.) I was setting off flea bombs and spraying the carpets and walls. (The vet said that they could jump up to five feet and stay on the walls if I only sprayed the carpet. Nothing worked. My ankles were horrible looking. After I moved, It turned out that they were sand fleas that were living in the crawl space under my house.

I've never been bitten by fleas, but we had a pretty bad infestation at one point. One of our rabbits brought home fleas when we took her to a local park, and they quickly spread to the other two and throughout the house. Of course, rabbits have to be treated more delicately than cats or dogs, and some of the commercial products out there could kill the rabbit along with the fleas! We ended up using a flea comb to get all the fleas we could out of the rabbits' fur. Then we rubbed in some sevin dust and sprinkled the dust on the carpeting throughout the house. Worked like a charm and as safe as it gets for the bunnies.

We have pets so we have fleas also but not inside the house, because we don't let them inside. I gonna tell you a story related to it. One of our puppy has a lot of fleas so I bought a dog shampoo and used it. A week later, the dog's hair starts falling and now we have a bald puppy. Do you think it is because the shampoo is too strong for him?

My cats had fleas once and they were hard to get rid of. I think we may have used a product similar to the one you mentioned because I vaguely remember there was a cycle involved. I don't remember much of an infestation in the house although we did treat certain areas. I read in a discussion on Mylot that New Dawn dish washing liquid does a good job on fleas. I just kind of filed that away in my mind in case one of the cats gets a couple of fleas. It might work and it might be easier and less expensive than the other stuff. Worth a try.

Flea - Nasty bugger
I always watch for the first sign in my pets by their scratching and look at their tummies usually I can spot a flea immediately if I see one I put "Frontline" flea and tick killer on each of the dogs. I am lucky as I only have to do that one time and they are gone until the next. People always say it is the animals that bring them into the house but I'm not so sure because I used to work in a very large carpeted office and if I wore white pants I could see the fleas jump out of the carpet. Here in Georgia we have sand fleas and they are vicious little bugs. Photo of the nasty little bugger

We have always had dogs and cats, and fleas have always been an issue. I love the "frontline" drops that go on the back of the neck of the animals. They really control the fleas. Every spring and summer, we set off bug bombs in the house. I did notice that when we went ripped out the carpet and went back to using the hardwood floors, it almost completely eliminated the fleas. My husband never gets bitten, but I do, so I have done everything in my power to get rid of the little pests. We have very few problems with them now. If you have animals that come into your house, you have to be diligent in controlling fleas. You can get rid of them, but it is a task that you have to keep up with.

I hate fleas! Yes I have had an experience with fleas. We got a puppy one time and the owners had kinda neglected it...it had fleas so bad it was the worst infestatoin I had ever seen.Yes we got bit too.Fleas are nothing to let go out of control if they are infected and bite you they can make you sick. One bite my son and he had a swelling the size of a baseball...he was sick for 2 months. Always bug bomb you house your moving into...infact take your tings into the house your moving into open it all up and then bug bomb everything! :)

Yep, we certainly had that expereince before and it was really nasty. I am allergic to insect bites so i ended up with huge red spots in my arms and legs. I kept scratching myself all day and it makes me feel like the dog next door!

Luckily, I am glad to say that I've never experienced anything like that up until now. But I know some people who got bit by it, they scratch it becuase of the uncontrollable itch feeling. And it leaves them with nasty mark/scars.. I think that now, there are more effective ways on getting rid of them. There are those chemicals called such as Rodenticides, that kills end eliminates them. I think I'm more happy to let you know that the only flea that I am proud of was, the bassist from the band 'red hot chilli pepers'. The dudes name is 'FLEA',and I like him so much!;)

We still have a flea problem. Not so bad now its winter. I am the one that gets bit. My middle son does too. We have not figured out a way to get rid of them for good yet. We are going to the vets to get our dogs treated this summer, we are going to bomb our home with bug bombs, we are getting our yard flea treated everyother week. I hope it works.

Yeah! Especially in our garage. There are many flees here. I dont like flees, who does right? lol. I get irritated to them especially when i feel them touching my skin. Well, I got a defender for flees. My dog. He usually bites flees and play with them. lol. If they bite me i scratch them, but not with my nails but with the my fingers, you know the soft part of our fingers. lol. when i scratched my skin it gets red and red, but for me to avoid that, i use lotion

When my mother passed we had to get her house ready for sale and while cleaning discovered she had a huge flea problem! They were everywhere! We tried the powders but needless to say that did not work. Because we did not have to live in the house we then decided to use flea bombs. I purchased them from the dollar store so they were fairly cheap (a buck a can) so we purchased about 30 cans and set them off 15 at a time three days apart. It worked!! We sold the house about a month later and still no fleas...of course the cat that had lived with her was gone as well so it was not being reinfested. If I had the problem in the home that I am living in..I think I would try the borax suggestion that I have read on here...and also get the spray from the vets office for the furniture. Possibly bomb first to zap them silly then do the rest. I hate fleas..I hate bugs....so anything that works. Fleas love to bite my angles and legs and I am super sensitive and scratch them terrible. I do not have the problem with fleas at all now with our french bulldog. We use the frontline from the vet and that keeps her clean from fleas.
