I can't believe I ever said that...

Many years ago my best friend and I were perched on the roof of a barn on her grandfather's farm. At the ages of 12 and 13 we were solving the world problems and having a deep conversation on life among other things.
The topic turned to God and she asked me if I believed in God. My response was, and surprisingly I remember it word for word, "I don't know but if there is one I don't want Him to get mad at me so I guess I'd better say yes I do." That was almost 40 years ago!
Have you ever thought something and then years later thought, "I can't believe I ever said that"? How old were you? How long ago was it? Do you remember where you were and who you said it to?

Oh yes many times, i also did a lot of things as a child that i would never do now.The bible even says that when i was a child I spoke like a child but when i was a man i spoke like a man...We do all kinds of silly things as children...I think of things now that i did and it crosses my mind and i cringe Lol...I was about 10-12 when i use to do all kinds of things..My cousin came to stay 2 weeks with us one time and she was such a baby and I was so hateful to that girl,I was just a spoiled brat..She had a habit of crying when you looked at her and ,she also got sleepy at 6;00 in the evening andi use to get so mad at her...and i knew if i looked at her she woul cry,so i did it on purpose...We laugh about it now...

Well at least you can both laugh about it now. It's funny you mentioned things you did because last night as I fell asleep I was thinking about how much I love gardening, digging in the dirt with my hands even. When I was young I cried if I got sand from the sandbox on my dress :(
When I was writing this discussion I was trying to think of the scripture you mentioned and couldn't for the life of me think of it - do you (or anyone) know the scripture reference?

1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part,
10 but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.
11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.
12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
#2 son read this at #1 son's wedding, was amazing #1 son is not a believer but when he heard this scripture he asked if someone could read that at their wedding. #2 son was in (still is) the Air Force but came home for the wedding and did the reading - was in his dress uniform. I cry every time I think of all it ment.

hmm, I remember back when I was younger, there were a lot of shows on Greek mythology, and I also happened to come into contact with a lot of religious people. Some how, that got me starting to think, There are so many Gods in the world, and a stupid idea just dawned on me. Hmm. . what if there were as many Gods around as there were people . . .

I think that is were a lot of the confusion of the world comes from - so many people believe there are so many Gods. I am happy with my religion there is only one God, God our Father. I keeps life much similar.

I am muslim so at this age like 12 or 13 I had to attend prayer 5 times daily even before sun rise many of our same age had to give Azan (call for prayer from mosque). We are 4-5 similar aged guy in our village home where we had a mosque and a Imam who taught us religious matter. We we all became a good religious minded that is never told lie, never stolen others goods, never keep away from prayer etc. Imam also teached us good English and some amusing playing and we did it as routine work. We still gossip about this when 2 or 3 similar aged person now meet in our city in any occasion. It is about 32 or 33 yrs. before.

Well many years ago I had a dream, actually at the time I would of been 18, and what my dream was about I will never forget as it was showing me very vividly the man I would marry as that night before I slept I asked God to show me or guide me to which man would be the right one for me, and when I woke up I said, oh no not a Tongan man, as I had seen what kind of people most of their men were like but believe me I did actually find this man and knew straight away that I wanted to marry this man and that he was the man I had dreamt about many years before and up to today we have been married 25 years. I had told all my friends about this that I would never marry one.

Wow that is exciting both that your dream came true and that God so vividly answered our prayer.

That is very good that you said you were sorry for angry words spoken and wonderful that your sister forgave you. I think we have all said things in anger at some time or another.

LOL! I think that about things I said yesterday never mind going back years to my childhood!
I actually can't remember anything like that from my childhood right now. I'm sure I must have said something embarrassing at some point, just my mind is mush right now.
I do have something funny to share from just last year though.
I was talking to a friend online after sunbathing outside for a while. I'd been wearing a bikini top and of course, I managed to get a little sunburnt in the chest area. So, myself and my friend are talking and I meant to type "My Boobs are stinging." Instead I typed "My Boobs are singing." She about fell off her chair laughing and I've never been able to live it down LOL. She reminds me every chance she gets even now.

I don't think so... I have always kept my thoughts extremely general, and flexible, open to new ideas. In other words, I allow myself to learn continuously.
If asked about God all my life I've thought:
Jews don't believe Christ was the son of God
Christians do
Born Again Christians were saved, I was taught that I only had to be born once, and that the faith I held since birth and was raised with will hold me up
Muslims pray to Allah, which I believe is another word for God....
So what is God? Is there a God?
Of course there is!!!
I believe that God is a higher power, and a MYSTERY! If we knew exactly what God is, and could explain it, we wouldn't need God!!!!!

I was in the kitchen a very long time ago and talking to my mom. At the time I was of the Catholic faith and we were talking about nuns and priest. I looked at her and made the comment to her that I had decided that I was going to be a nun. Now you have to understand that I was getting into things on a regular basis. Not anything against the law. Just little things that I shouldn't be doing and Mom would have to get onto me. I can't believe looking back that I had said that.

LOL - now you brought back a memory. We had just watched the TV show "The Flying Nun" (Sally Fields) and my younger sister told our Mom she wanted to be a nun too - she wanted to fly. She is into all kinds of bad stuff now :(

I remember when I was young, I keep telling my mom and my dad that I wouldn't get married because I'm going to take care of them when then they get old.It was fun remembering those words,Mom always mention it to us whenever she had a chance like she'll tease me sometimes and will say"oh i thought you're not gonna marry"..:)

I've said so many things in my life that I can't believe that I've said. For instance when I was about 11 or 12 I would tell everyone that I wanted 10 kids and I really believed that. I also believed that I wouldn't even kiss my husband until we got married and even thinking about that embarrassed me greatly. Its really funny to think about now.

too funny I remember thinking I wanted a dozen kids - until the second, then I said I would have a dozen if I didn't have to be pregnant to get them (hated being fat), before I delivered the 4th I said "tie em, cut em, cast em in iron - I don't want any more kids"

I remember about such a similar incident. Once, I was talking to my Grandmother, and I was then 4-5 years old. We had long conversations, and she not the conventional model of a grandmother. She was different, modern, and my dearest friend. That day, I asked her a question all of a sudden, when she was washing my face, after I had my breakfast.
I asked her, "Why does girls and boys looks different from each other physically ?" I don't know what made me ask that, but I know I had no wicked intensions. I was as innocent as a 5 years child should be. This often haunts me now, that I asked such a question at such an age !

Oh I don't think it should haunt you, it's normal for children to "notice" a difference. I've raised 4 children and they all asked that question at some time or another. I think its wonderful that you had a grandmother you could talk to openly.

I'm going to have to think on this one a little more. I'm sure I've said thousands of things that I wish I hadn't later or couldn't believe I said. I'll respond with something later.
